(continuation of chapter 51)
Galina had made it through watching three people get tortured and the last one, her birth mother, was going to be difficult at best.
Even though Galina could not stand her, she was still the woman that gave her life, carried her for nine months but then had to give her up at the whim of a control freak and bastard named Dimitry Toykin.
She hated to admit the fact that watching Ilia turned her on. Not necessarily what he was doing but how his body looked when he was doing it.
His biceps bulged, the muscles in his neck looked sexy as hell and she loved the way his hair looked when he was all sweaty.
He was her hero. He'd rescued her and that made him almost as high as God in her book. She yearned to have him, the need becoming overwhelming.
She wanted him, naked, and in their bed, his body above hers and settled in between her legs as he sunk into her. The desire pooling in her lower body started to get painful.
She would have to prepare herself for him tonight. She knew that this kind of work, worked him up and he would be rough with her but after that was over, she would have to help him find his way back to humanity and she would succeed.
When all this mess would finally be over, there would be only one thing left for her to do and that was pay back the money that Dimitry had stolen from the syndicate.
Ilia said that he'd already been in touch with each of the five heads, had been instructed on how to make out the cashier's checks and had been given instructions on where to come for that meeting. Ten million to each organization. She still couldn't believe that Dimitry had stolen that money.
Zoya knew Galina and when she found out how he'd come to get these ill gotten gains, she would do everything in her power to return the money and that's exactly what she was going to do.
She just prayed that when they saw that she was genuine in the fact that she really had nothing to do with it, they would show her grace and mercy. Otherwise, Ilia would be going home alone.
She knew the chance she was taking but it had to be done. This had to be settled and she would be the one to settle it.
She could feel Max's eyes on her. "How are you holding up?" he asked. She turned to him, leaning against the glass and said "The first three weren't as hard as I thought it would be, because they were getting exactly what they deserved.
But Allister? Max, they had told her I was dead and when she heard that, she turned and never looked back. She actually told me that for a long time she wanted me but after hearing that I had supposedly died, she said she didn't care anymore.
That is until she'd heard the rumor that Zoya had given me the money and then, her own words, then she cared. She gave me life and protected me until I was born and for that I will be forever grateful but she is a cold, hateful and heartless bitch who hurt her own daughter. Now she gets what's coming to her and God have mercy on her, because I sure as hell don't."
Maxim raised an eyebrow at her bold statement. "Ilia's lucky, you know?" he said. "Hmm, how do you figure?" she asked. "Because he has you. Men in our business are seldom lucky enough to find a woman that can handle our line of work, that's why a lot of us turn to prostitutes or escorts. Someone we don't have to build a life with.
But every once in a while, someone like you and Tori come along, and it's women like you that help protect our human side at the end of the day, because no matter what happens during the course of twenty-four hours, we know we have great women waiting for us, warming our beds and waiting to hold our hearts again in their hands."
"Hmm, well that is very sweet, Max, but I have to say that I am the one who feels very lucky because somehow, inspite of everything Ilia and I have been through, we manage to keep finding our way back to each other. He's my life, Maxim.
Without him I cease to exist. If anything ever happens to him, you might as well put me in the ground right along with him" Galina had never been more serious about anything than her feelings for Ilia.
Max was about to say something else, when they heard the door unlock and Erik and Yuri brought Allister in. She was in chains, the clothes she had been wearing were rags at best and she was beaten, bloodied and bruised.
"Oh God" Galina breathed. It brought everything back to her from that night and she imagined that this is exactly how she must have looked when Ilia and the rest of his men saw her that night.
"Galina, you have to remember what this whore did to you. Don't let your heart feel sorry for her. You looked worse than this when we finally got to you. Ilia wanted to tie her to two vehicles and tear her apart after that night but I persuaded him to hold off on the punishment so you could be here.
I was actually surprised when Ilia said he was agreeing to letting you come. She's evil, dorogoy (darling), nothing else. This way, you never have to look over your shoulder again. You and Ilia can move on with your lives, get married, have babies and build a life. You deserve that and so does he" Galina loved Max like a brother and his words hit home.
She drew herself up taller, turned her attentions to the glass in front of her and watched her husband go to work.
Galina heard and watched as Ilia yelled at her, spit on her, hit her and beat on her but she never once said she was sorry. She only shouted out that Galina was worthless and even at one point, she offered to split the money with him if he would let her go.
Ilia lost all control on her at that point. She had been strapped to a chair that looked like something you would sit in at a dentist office.
Her hands and feet were bound fast so she couldn't move. She watched Ilia pick up a bottle, walk over and point it at her hand and pressed back on the trigger. She could see right away that it was acid of some kind.
The way the liquid ate through her flesh, the screams that emanated from her throat were horrifying. He did the other hand and then both her feet.
Next, he tore her bitter rags from the upper torso of her body and gave that area the same acid treatment and finally her face.
Galina had handled all of it up until that point and when she saw what it was doing to her face and eyes, she lost it and vomited in a near by trashcan.
"Have you seen enough, Galina?" Maxim asked softly. Sniffing, she nodded. "Please let Ilia know that I will be waiting for him, no matter how long it takes, in our room."
Max nodded and asked for Yuri to escort her back to the main part of the house but before she walked out of that room, she placed a small kiss on Max's cheek. "Thank you" she said softly, then turned and left with Yuri.
When she got back to their room, she slid to the floor and wept. She wept for a lot of things, too many to mention, but when she was done, she felt sated, relaxed but most importantly...free.
