Chapter Seven
Everything spun around me, the world once full of light and colour, suddenly became monochrome, dark and gloomy. I wasn't sure why but every cell in my body believed that the vampire who was watching my execution, casually was my birth-father. There was no clear reaction on his face, just an empty response. I was about to open my mouth to ask again, in case I hadn't been loud enough but stopped as thunder clapped in the distance, now vampires were responsible for controlling the weather, nice.
Even though, my heart pounded like a beast in my chest and it was getting harder to breathe by the minute, I still wanted answers like, why. It was Blaze who snapped his fingers in front of my eyes. "You're delaying the execution, dog" He spat, causing me to glare and grab him by the throat. All my life, I've been that weak, mute, human-like girl but now the tables have turned 360 degrees, and no one was going to get away with messing with me.
"I'm finding answers to why, I've seen dreams where I'm draining people of their blood and where my mother's telling me, Nixon's not my father." I snapped. "So don't you dare ruin this opportunity to talk to my potential father, understood Blaze?" My attitude caught him off guard because he obeyed. Inside me, my wolf laughed hysterically
Who's the dog now?
"I...I" My so-called-maybe-father, looked down with despair in his eyes. "I'm not sure" Again, Blaze interrupted my conversation by backhanding my father, "You broke the accords" His declaration boomed for miles on end. "How dare you!" He shouted again, if there was something similar about me and him, it was our incapability to control anger. "It's a yes or no, question, nothing else. Are you my birth-father?" I asked slowly this time. The man looked down at his toes, ignoring my question. "Stephen, answer the dog's god-damn question!" I smiled to myself as Blaze blantely told me my father's name, Stephen.
Stephen looked at Blaze with defeat swimming in his eyes. "Yes, if you're 17 years old, then yes" The axe dropped out of Blaze's hands and onto the floor as he stormed away, taking the rage with him. Behind him Alex and a large crowd, ran, attempting to catch up. "She never told me about your birth, I swear" Stephen cried loudly. "I know." My response was short and concise. "She died as soon as I was born" I walked away, guess the execution was delayed. I walked straight into the vampire lair, following a large crowd ahead of me. In the distance; the thundering and lightning continued. After I stepped inside, drying myself completely, someone dragged me by the wrist and spun me into a dark corner, "Are you stupid? You should've left" He barked into my ear. "How'd you know my name?" I snarled back at him. "Your death shook the underworlders" He smirked "Well it certainly looks like you crawled back from your grave." I rolled my eyes but when I saw Alex's divert behind me, I turned around to come face to face with a Blaze, who had flames coming out of his nostrils.
"You had a chance to run dog, why did you then come back then" Vampires surrounded me, staring with their dark red eyes. I shrugged my shoulders. "Curiosity, the fact I haven't got anywhere else to go, and my family think I'm dead" I spat the word family and pursed my lips when there was no movement, I didn't really know what I expected. "Think about it, don't you have an upper hand, if you let me in, I mean a hybrid" I paused, realising I had grasped everyone's attention. "Aren't hybrids, I mean rare" I smiled as I saw many vampires nod their head.
My birth-father, Stephen walked out the crowd, looking me dead in the eyes. "Mia" He cupped my chin, making me freeze. He shook his head "How do we know, whether your not lying? Working for that Nixon?" I chuckled and gave him a deathly smile. "You don't want to believe me so, you get out of the whole breaking the accord mess." He opened his mouth to counter argue. "Ssh" I whispered, placing my finger on his lips. "I look partially like you" He sighed "Ever heard of doppelgangers?" Now it was my time to tut. "That look on your face when I called you my father proves it all, Stephen, do I need to give you the bird and the bees talk?" I pushed past him, as vampire after vampire laughed.
"Follow me" Blaze led the way up spiral stairs, "You'll be staying in the room next to me, if you're telling the truth, about working with us, you could come to good use" When we reached the balcony, looking down at the whole population of blood-sucking creatures, who looked up with respect. "Welcome to the Fallen Monsters, the biggest pack of vampires" Everyone cheered. "Keep her existence a secret from the world." Blaze winked. "Are you like the Alpha?" I asked, as I saw everyone's reaction. Blaze smiled "Kinda, dog" He walked away with me following behind him. "Here" He randomly opened a room door "Your bedroom" I stepped in seeing a large, decorated room with large windows, a proper bed and electronics placed around the room. "This is my room?" I turned around to see him and Alex, who must have followed us. "Yeah" He scrunched his face in confusion "I've never had a room, I mean the storeroom, back with Nixon, was okay I guess, but this" I paused, releasing more information than I bargained for. "I mean it's beautiful" I sat on the bed, forgetting for a moment where I was and actually hoping, and filling my heart with desire for a comfortable future.
"Storeroom" Alex sat next to me "What storeroom?" I fell backwards. "My mother died giving birth to me, I killed her. It was natural reaction for my brother and father to hate me, I was the pack slave." I gulped remembering. "Being starved, beaten, plainly abused, it was life but then the rape started and I knew personally arranging a meeting with the angel of death would be better than hear Nixon give permission for me to get raped." Tears fell down my temples, I turned my face away from the world and darkness enveloped me. Someone whispered something and kissed my temple. Alex, he was the gentle and kind type, like tea. My wolf purred inside me.
But haven't always preferred the bitter coffee type?
