"Thanks for the afternoon out, dad. It was a lot of fun." Ashley smiled as we got into the car
I hummed in agreement, fiddling with the car radio in attempt to find the station I wanted. Dad just smiled as he pulled out of the parking lot. It has been a long time since dad has had the time to the family out for a day of fun. He's just been so busy with work and whatever else while we've had school; leaving us with no time to go out. My mind was blank as I felt the wind blowing through the open window and onto my face. The strong smell of freshly mowed grass and gasoline was present in the air. I watched as some guy tore through a field on his four wheeler, destroying parts of the grass.
Everything was so peaceful and calm. It put everything into perspective. Life wasn't always going to picture perfect but the little things make it worth while. I guess I always knew that but just needed a reminder sometimes. I sighed, a smile on my face. I had my little family and it was all okay.
"So, what's up with you and Chase?" Dad asked
"Absolutely nothing." I laughed
"Didn't seem like it." Dad mused
"Just friends, I suppose." I shrugged
"I think that the boy likes you." Dad stated
"No way in hell." I denied
"Trust me, sweetheart. I know these kinds of things." Dad replied
"I think you've gone bonkers." I joked
"Maybe but I still can tell when a boy likes my daughter." Dad shrugged
I rolled my eyes at him. Nothing would ever become of Chase and I. It was just so far-fetched that it never crossed my mind. Hell, I think his goal is just to get me to fall for him and then he'll leave. That's just the type of guy he seems to be. Chase isn't much good and I can't see myself with him. I don't even see how dad got the idea. Sure, Chase has that annoying nickname but nothing to point towards Dixon liking me. It doesn't bother me, anyway. I have no intention in looking for a boyfriend since I've been doing just fine without one. What's the point of worrying over something that will happen on its own in time? There is no point so I'll just go with the flow. It makes my life easier. My phone buzzed and I couldn't understand why the smile on my face widened.
Dixon: hey
Me: hiya
Dixon: I'm bored
Me: well, isn't that just great?
Dixon: oh, haha
Me: *rolls eyes*
Dixon: you're mean
Me: Ik
Dixon: I h8 you
Me: good, you should
Dixon: *sigh* you're so difficult
Me: thanks
Dixon: come save me
Me: nah, bye Dixon
Dixon: bye Cinderella
I rolled my eyes, shutting off my phone. I could see the smug look on dad's face in the corner of my eye but decided to ignore it. He can think that there is something there all he wants but the truth is that there is absolutely nothing. Dad will get that through his head eventually.
We got back home shortly and I climbed upstairs. Trudging into my room, I fell down on my bed. Oh, how comfortable it was. I don't know why I was so tired but pretty soon, I fell asleep.
