"Hold on to your tentacles..."
"It's Inkopolis News time!"
Rodger, Eryk, Leuis, and I sat or leaned back on a fence and faced the outdoor television screen that was the size of the news studio window. There the famous Squid Sisters Callie and Marie stood in their sparkling outfits as they reported the news.
"Before we reveal today's stages, some special news!" Callie chimed.
"What is it? What is it?!" Marie put up an enthusiastic tone. Even if it wasn't her real character, she did it for the audience.
"We've received a word from... on high."
Excited chatter began among the crowd of Inklings.
"You don't mean...?!"
"That's right! There's going to be a Splatfest soon!"
The Inklings started to cheer.
Leuis was jumping in his spot, flailing his arms in the air. "So excited! The food! The fireworks! The battling!"
Rodger nudged at me. "Translation, please?"
"He's looking forward to the food." I responded. "I heard there's going to be a lot more shish kabobs this time."
"Well, that is nice!" Eryk said. "But I look forward to getting Super Sea Snails much more!"
"For your gear?" I asked.
"No, silly!" Eryk laughed. "Those Snails are a delicacy. I could make delicious meals with them!"
I nodded while forcing a grin. Those poor snails...
"OOH! What's the theme? What's the theme?!" Marie cried out with excitement.
"Just a moment! The theme is descending as we speak!" Callie answered.
Descending from what? A god?
"Let's see it! Let's see it!"
Many of the Inklings agreed with Marie.
The sound of a printer clicked.
"... Aaaand it's here! We've got the Splatfest theme!"
"Let's hear it! Let's hear it!"
"All right then, I'll announce the theme!... The theme for the upcoming Splatfest theme is..."
"Wait for iiiiiit..."
In between Callie and Marie, where a screen was hung presented the theme. A robed figure was on Callie's side, and an armoured fellow on Marie's.
"Take up your weapons, time for the battle of ages!"
"Prepare for the storm, all soldiers and mages!"
I laughed a bit of how that rhymed and how cheesy it sounded. But I knew I couldn't do any better.
"That's right folks, we're bringing the fairy tales to life!" Callie exclaimed. "On my side, we've got the nobles in shining armour, the king's men, the dragon slayers! Team Knights!"
"And on my side," Marie followed. "We've got the sages of wisdom, the benders of elements, the supernatural magicians! Team Mages!"
Callie placed her hands on her hips. "Marie! Your team is called Team Wizards!"
Marie crossed her arms. "It sounds better when it's called Team Mages."
As the two talked on, exciting the Inklings, Judd walked over to a box veiled with a cloth and pulled it off. There stood the voting machine with the same images on the television screen.
