I sat on the couch looking down at my red supras which covered my feet. I hands were sweaty and shakey. I rubbed my clammy hands on my knees and took a deep breath. I felt a shadow fall over me and looked up at two blue, caring eyes.

"You can do this, Ri." My big brother, Connor, said to me. He sat down next to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. "You'll be fine."

"What if they all remember?"

"Who cares if they remember. Ignore them."

It was my first day back to school after three years. Freshman year was a nightmare and I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. Getting shoved into lockers, pounded in the face with dodgeballs in gym class, being pushed down stairs, getting my books thrown to the ground, and hearing people call me names is not a good start to high school. It got to the point where I couldn't handle it and I wanted to end my life.

FLASHBACK:

I stuffed a rope in my backpack and then threw it over my sholder.

"Ready to go?" Connor asked me.

I nodded my head in reply and we both made our way to the car. Once we got to school I parted ways with Connor as he had to go to his Junior homeroom. Me, on the other hand, went to the boys locker room. What better place to kill myself than at school? Everyone can see what they caused. I took a deep breath as I opened the door. I walked to the center of all the lockers and stared up at a metal beam. Perfect. I climbed up on a chair and secured the rope around the beam. I poked my head through the loop and stood there silent. The locker room was dark and quiet and I could hear my breathes echo off the walls. I stood there waiting for the first bell to ring.

Thoughts ran through my head thinking of my family and little friends that I had. I thought hard about Connor and how he would always be there for me. How he was my best friend. I knew Connor had gym first period and the last thing I wanted to do was have him be the first one to walk into the locker room.

The first bell sounded and my breath became shakey and my heart rate increased. A stream of light came into the locker room when the door opened. A tear fell from my eye in hopes that it wasn't Connor. To my luck it wasn't.

Ricky, a friend of Connor's, walked in first. He stood in the middle of the locker room petrified. His bestfriends little brother was attempting to kill himself. He didn't know how to react.

"Ricky, tell Connor I'm sorry."

"What? Riley no. Get down." He said and then backed up and ran back out the door. "CONNOR! CONNOR, COME QUICK! CONNOR!" I could hear him shouting down the hallway. As his shouts became more faint the locker room filled with more people. Eachone stopped and starred at me. They circled around me, most with fear in their eyes and confusion.

"Oh, just do it already." I heard a voice say from beside me. "Nobody would care." It was Trenton. The one who started all the bullying. I squeezed my eyes shut ready to kick the chair out from under me. I noticed commotion by the door. Someone was trying to get in but it was blocked by all the people watching. Just as I kicked off the chair Connor burst through the door and stopped dead when he saw me fall and the rope tighten around my neck. The last thing I saw before I blacked out was the fear, concern, confusion, and sadness all piled up at once in Connor's face and I'll never forget it. That was the only thing I could remember the next morning when I woke up in a hospital bed.

END FLASHBACK

I nodded in agreement with Connor and got up off the couch. Connor grabbed his car keys and drove me to school. He pulled up to the drop off section and I was about to get out of the car.

"Riley?"

"Yea..."

"Ignore them. Call me if you want to come home." He said and gave me a reassuring smile. I nodded and shut the car door. I watched until Connor drove away and then turned and headed through the main doors of the school.

I began my walk to the main office to get my schedule and locker number. I walked slowly past the locker room and chills ran over me. I looked in through the window on the door and saw flashbacks of a rope hanging from the rafter. I shook it off and carried on to the office.

"Mr. McDonough, welcome back." Mrs. Brown, the receptionist, greeted.

"Thanks." I said and she handed me my stuff with a genuine smile.

"Have a good day." She said as I headed out the door.

The halls were now filled with students and every set of eyes were on me. I ignored them just like Connor said and made my way to my locker. I threw my bag in and a few notebooks that I had brought from home. A loud slam came from my right and I jumped. I looked to see a fist connected to the metal of the locker.

"Am I seeing ghosts? I thought you were dead, McDonough." Trenton said.

I didn't say anything. I closed my locker door and started walking away. Trenton grabbed the back of my shirt and slammed me up against the lockers.

"It was better at this school when I thought you were dead, psycho." He said and walked away laughing with his friends. Everyone stared at me and I heard whispers from every direction.

'He's psychotic.'

'He tried to kill himself freshman year.'

'I heard he killed his family too.'

I pushed off the lockers and ran brushing into someones shoulder along the way. I heard her books fall but I didn't stop to help. When I turned around to see who it was she simply looked at me and gave me a sorry smile. I turned back around and ran further until I reached the other end of the school locking myself in the bathroom.

I pulled out my phone to call Connor but something stopped me. The image of the girl flushed back into my memory and her familiar eyes burned through me.
