I sigh, turning back to Adam.

"I'm sorry." I apologise.

"What do you have to be sorry for? It's not your fault he's an inconsiderate dick head, excuse my language." he smiles at me and I laugh.

"How're you feeling?" I ask.

"Considerably better, considering." he answers and I raise my eyebrow at him.

"Considering what?"

"Considering a few things, actually. I'm all cleaned up, I'm not going to die, not right now, at least, and you're here. You don't have to stay if you don't want to, ya know."

"Trust me, I'd much rather be here with you." I assure him.

"Ya sure? I don't know of many people who would like to spend their Friday night with a guy as boring as me."

"Hey, I don't find you boring!" I protest and he laughs.

"You don't have to lie, Cass."

"Well, you may not be as bipolar as Harry, always throwing punches and cursing people out, but I think I'll settle for boring tonight." I laugh and he joins. Suddenly, a though overpowers me and of course, my mouth runs before my mind has time to catch up with it.

"Why is Harry...why do you guys hate each other so much?" I ask him softly. Adam looks at me with concern and sorrow-filled eyes.

"I don't want to scare you." he whispers.

"I'm pretty hard to scare. I think I can handle it." I whisper back and he shakes his head.

"You don't know him, Cassie. He's done some seriously messed up shit. And I don't know how I'd be able to continue living if I didn't do every possible thing in my power to keep you safe from him." he stresses.

"What has he done that's so bad? Everyone keeps telling me to stay away from him, that he's bad and will ruin me, but I want to know why." I ask.

"Cass...if I told you, what Harry has done, you wouldn't even want to live in the United States even less California. And even if you did move, he's already got his eyes on you. You've already caught his attention," Adam speaks slowly, carefully thinking through every syllable before speaking them. He lightly strokes my cheek with the back of my hand, looking straight into my eyes.

"I am going to protect you. If it's the last thing I do. Even if I die in my attempts, I swear to God-no- on my life that I will protect you from him." Adam says and there's an urgency in his words that both comforts her and scares her to death.

"Thank you." Cass thanks him quietly, him carefully wrapping his arms around her small frame.

"Anything for you, beautiful."

"Well, well, well, lookie what we have here." Blane's voice wakes me up the next morning. I groan and feel the bed shift beside me. Slowly opening my eyes, I sit up and Adam does the same.

"Hey, Blane." Adam greets. His voice is groggy, deep, and absolutely adorable.

"Don't you 'Hey Blane' me. I knew you two would hit it off. Ya know, I really should get a job at this. Blane Woodbury: Love Doctor Extrodinaire." she laughs as she sets her things down on her bed, taking a seat.

"Where's Rebecca? I didn't see her at all last night, even after the party." Blane asks us.

"Uh, I don't know. I didn't really see her either." I answer.
