Inspired by the princess diaries because why not? Sorry for lack of updates. Year 13 is stressful, and I'm trying to do well and get my uni application done. I'm nearly there now I think.
I start my new job tomorrow whoop whoop!

Oh and if anyone has any requests just let me know, I need to like not think about school for at least one or two days. :)

Josh didn't believe his mother at first. How could he, plain old Joshua Bradley be royal? It was absurd, yet somehow it was true. Josh was the first in line to the Genovian throne. By the time he first visited Genovia Josh finally began to believe it.

Life in Genovia was a world away from everything Josh had ever known. He was thrust into a world of fine clothes, lavish parties and foreign dignitaries. It was safe to say Josh had no idea what he was doing but of course his grandmother had expected that and asked a prince from a neighbouring country to help Josh to get on his feet.

With that Prince Vikram took Josh on a whistle-stop tour of everything rule he needed to know. An endless stream of names, titles and pointless social etiquette rules, all Josh could wonder was how Vik remembered all of it, the rules seemed to never end.

Vik fascinated Josh, he was humble, generous, down to earth. Everything Josh had assumed royals were not and Josh was half his grandmother had gotten Vik to help him rather than some boring old advisor.

"Is there anything stopping me from marrying a guy?" Josh asked suddenly. Vik looked taken aback by Josh's sudden question, Josh quickly tried to back track but Vik was too fast to let him.

"No, luckily for me and I'm guessing you, no one thought to put anything like that in" Vik smiled as he shuffled through his notes to find the next bit he needed to cover with Josh.

"You're gay?!"

"Yes Josh, my entire kingdom is aware it's no secret. I would advise you to be open as well, secrets create distrust" Vik told Josh quickly. "Now about-"

"I heard you have to marry in the next year, is that true?" Josh interrupted.

"Or my parents will chose for me yes. I'm not concerned, my parents know me and know what is best for me and the country. I think you will soon find yourself in a similar situation."

"What do you mean?" Josh asked shocked. No one had said anything to him about marriage.

"No one told you" Vik mumbled mostly to himself. "Well pretty much there's a really old rule no one wants to bother getting rid of that says you have to before you can inherit the throne"

"I never cared about marriage anyway" Josh shrugged "I'm not bothered"

"Your grandmother will be more than happy to chose a bride for you"

"Groom" Josh corrected on reflex.

"Oh groom, okay then. I'm sure your grandmother will be thrilled to choose for you" Vik said "now can we please carry on with this?"

One Year Later

"Your highness, the queen had a list of possible suitors for you to choose from in the event of her passing" a maid told Josh timidly as she handed over a list to the soon to be King. Josh's grandmother had died a few days before and now Josh had to begin the process of taking over and becoming King.

Josh glanced at the list quickly seeing unfamiliar names of sons of noblemen from across the world. One name however was very familiar to Josh. Prince Vikram Barn. Josh knew Vik had to marry soon anyway, he was pretty sure Vik wouldn't mind marrying him too much. With that in mind he circled Vik's name on the list and gave it to his advisor to talk to Vik's parents about.

Josh knew there would be no problem, Vik was a prince he had to marry royalty and a soon to be King was an ideal choice. The only question was when the wedding would be, and after that when the coronation would be.
---------

"Did you know about this?" Vik demanded the next time he saw Josh.

"Well yes" Josh confirmed not sure why Vik was concerned.

"Did you choose?"

"You? Yes"

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Vik exclaimed pulling Josh into a hug.

"Okay?" Josh shrugged as he tentatively hugged Vik back.

"I rejected everyone my parents suggested, their last resorts are a couple of foreign asshole princesses I've had the misfortune to meet several times now." Vik explained. "You saved me from that"

"Glad to be of service"

----------------

"Why the hell did you choose me Josh if you're going to ignore me the whole time!" Vik shouted at Josh as he sat in his office late at night. Like he had done every night in the two months since their marriage.

"Vik I have a lot of important things to do" Josh told Vik absently

"More important than me?" Vik accused fed up of being ignored

"Vik no I-"

"Oh go tell someone who cares!" Vik shouted storming out of the room. "And don't even think about coming to bed. You can sleep somewhere else!"

The silence that followed was deafening. Josh couldn't focus on the papers, Vik seemed really hurt and Josh knew he should have been a better husband. Josh deserved every bit of Vik's anger.

"I'm sorry star" Josh said softly as he carefully opened the bedroom door. "I don't want to do anything wrong. I got carried away"

Vik sniffed pitifully. "I'm sorry I overreacted"

"No Vik, you were right to be annoyed. I should spend more time with you. I'm going to spend more time with you"

Vik smiled tearily at Josh as he opened his arms widely to encourage the older man to come to bed and cuddle him.

"I love you star"
