So I have been enjoying soulmate AUs way too much so here's my take.
Simon still remembered when he first learnt about soulmates. He had received his assignment date a lot later than all of his friends all of whom received theirs before they were even 16 years old and were now 20 years old enjoying life with their soulmates. Josh and his soulmate Freya had recently married since they had been matched the youngest at 14 years old.
Yet here Simon was 20 years old and still no assignment. Simon had become resigned to his fate, alone and soulmateless forever.
Yet by some miracle 5 months after Simon turned 20 the letter finally arrived. At first Simon thought it had to be some kind of sick joke JJ or Ethan were playing on him. But when Simon picked up the letter and looked at it closer he knew it had to be real. Everything about the envelope was as it should be.
It was finally here, Simon would finally find out the day he would be able to go to meet his soulmate.
But Simon didn't want to open the letter. What if the letter was just an apology, "sorry you don't have a soulmate" or even worse "your soulmate died" ? Maybe Simon didn't want to know, after all he had waited this long.
Simons phone began to ring pulling him out of his thoughts. He answered it automatically but said nothing.
"Ah good Simon I was hoping you would be around. Are you busy?" Josh spoke down the phone but no reply came.
"Simon? Simon are you there?"
Silence
"Simon? What's wrong?"
"Say something Simon?"
"I'm coming over there."
Josh arrived at Simons house 5 minutes later out of breath and disheveled. He let himself in the house and was surprised to see Simon stood by the door still staring at the envelope in his hands.
"Oh. Oh wow." Josh stuttered out. "Are you going to open it?"
After a long pause Simon finally spoke "I'm scared Josh"
"Don't you want to know Simon?"
Simon shrugged
"Do you want me to help you?" Simon looked up at Josh at last. His blue eyes somewhat hopeful as he shakily held the envelope out to Josh who hesitantly took it.
"Do you want me to read it to you or just read it first?"
Simon held up two fingers and Josh nodded. He slowly pulled the envelopes seal open and pulled out the letter inside. He read it quickly to himself knowing Simon was waiting then held it out to Simon to read.
Dear Mr S.Minter
We are pleased to inform you that you have been assigned your soulmate. We apologise for the delay and hope you are looking forward to finally meeting your soulmate.
Beneath that was a location, a date and a time.
"Simon that's tomorrow" Josh told his friend softly.
"Will you go with me"
Josh nodded encouragingly "I'll drive you and wait outside"
"Thank you Joshy"

"This is it Simon, you finally get to meet your soulmate"
"What if they don't like me?"
"Oh hush Simon, you know that won't be the case. No one who has ever met you has disliked you, just go in there. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain"
Simon nodded slowly before stepping out of the car, tentatively waving at Josh before beginning the short walk up to the restaurant door.
"Simon Minter, I'm uh meeting someone here" Simon told the waiter closest to the door.
"Oh yes right this way" and the waiter began to walk gesturing Simon to follow. The waiter stopped next to a table nestled in the farthest corner of the restaurant, a table at which a young man was already sat.
Simon stared at the young man already seated, desperate to take all of the detail in. This was him. The young man in front of him looked looked Indian and was considerably small, especially when compared to Simon himself. He also had dark eyes and an open smile.
"Hi" the younger man finally broke the silence. "My name's Vikk"
Simon hesitated slightly "um I'm Simon"
"It's amazing to finally meet you Simon, I'm so glad this day is finally here"

So I've realised I am not doing too well at endings so sorry about that.
