Chapter Nine

Tea and Sharing Time

Aria looked at Adam and the ring he held between his finger and thumb. It was a truly magnificent ring; dozens of tiny diamonds surrounding one large diamond the size of a fingernail.

“Oh, Adam…” she gasped, covering her mouth with one hand. Her stomach was in knots and her mind couldn’t stop thinking of those beautiful blonde and auburn haired children…

Adam was starting to look worried “Aria? Please…say something.”

She looked at her shoes, then out at the water, as if she’d see the answer hidden somewhere in the inky depth. “I-I…” she looked up at him through her lashes “Adam, I would love to marry you!”

Aria looked around the little apartment with sadness weighing down her heart; she had considered this her home for seven months, and would be heartbroken when she left. But it would be weird if Adam moved into the apartment she had shared with James, so they were buying their own new apartment downtown.

But before they could do any of that, she had to tell her girl friends. She had asked wondered and wondered how to tell them, and finally decided to throw a luncheon at her apartment.

It seemed a good enough time; she had been engaged for three weeks and she and Adam had already decided to have a summer wedding, so they only had a few months.

She smoothed out her blouse as the doorbell rang and wondered how the girls would react. She knew Erica would be ecstatic but disappointed at the same time (she had always expected Aria and James to get together) and Holly would probably dib maid of honour. Tania and Kierra would just act happy and ask a million questions.

“Hi Aria!” Holly cried, walking right in. As usual, she wore something that accented her curves and made her look flawless.

“This is nice,” Tania said, looking around.

“Yeah, the apartment looks beautiful.” Kierra complimented, following her friends in. Erica came last and just smiled, the way she usually did; letting Aria know how much she had missed her best friend.

“Thank you,” Aria replied, butterflies dancing in her stomach, doing nothing to calm her nerves. She brought the tea out and motioned to the baked goods she’d made, helping herself to a pink meringue and nibbling on it.

The girls had been busy; Tania had actually benefited from going to the club and she and Sam were going steady; Erica and Matt were still going strong; Kierra was single and doing a lot of mingling; and as usual, Holly had a new boy toy hanging of her arm who they all discussed for quiet a while. (much longer than Erica said was appropriate)

Soon though, the subject of Adam was brought up by the lips of Holly. “So, Aria.” She started, an evil glint in her eye “How’re thing with that flawless man of yours?” she took another chocolate espresso biscuit and nodded as if saying ‘tell us or we’ll rip it out of your throat with our own hands’.
