Epilogue
The ‘happily’ and the ‘ever after’ part
Seven Years Later
A golden dusk settled over Willow Hollow where a stone house nestled between ten large willows that shaded a group of children who played in the summer’s golden light.
The children played in the meadow and underneath the willows as the parents sat in comfort beneath the one closest to the house while a golden haired woman and an auburn haired man entertained their guests. It was a warm July evening and everyone was in high spirits as the couple opened their doors to their closest friends.
Two identical golden haired boys with bright blue eyes chased a tall, auburn haired man as he and several other men entertained the children while the woman sat around and gossiped, drinks in hand.
“James,” Aria called to her husband, her simple pearl wedding ring glinting in the dusk “Supper time!”
“Alright, c’mon boys, your mother’s calling.” James took the hands of the twins and gathered the rest of the fathers and children, too, bringing them to the patio where tables laden with food stood.
“Thank you,” Aria said, kissing James’s cheek “I have to step out for a minuet; Ella needs to be fed before I eat or she’ll go to bed hungry.” She smiled down at the auburn haired baby she cradled in her arms, hazel eyes sleepy as the babe stared up at her parents. The six month old was quiet alert for her age, and looked remarkably like her father.
“Alright, I’ll get the line moving. The boys will want to stay up late; butt will crash by nine and its six thirty now, so I better get food into them now.” Aria nodded and departed to the kitchen, were she breast fed little Ella until her hazel eyes closed. Looking out the kitchen window, she could see the happy families eating and laughing together; parents and children sitting together.
She could see Holly and Patrick with their sons Robert, Oliver and Kevin sitting with Tania and Sam, who was cradling their new baby daughter. Erica and Matt were sitting beside Kierra (who was still single, not that she cared that much anyway) with their daughters and son Jemma, Leila and Paul. Maevve was there, too, with Tiger and her husband Victor and son Aaron. Everyone was so happy, and Aria couldn’t help feeling happy, too.
She had married James within the year, and by their anniversary was pregnant with the twins, Cameron and Kieran, who were five. Little Ella was six months old and had already captured the hearts of many. Her little family was crazy, but she loved them with all her heart.
As the guests departed and the sun set behind the forest and hills, Aria laid Ella down in her crib. Crossing the hall, she watched James read Cameron and Kieran their favourite story-the Wizard of Oz, Aria’s old copy from when she and James were kids. The boys had bunk beds, Cameron (who was two minuets older) slept on top and Kieran on the bottom. Both twins sat on James’s lap now, listening to his deep voice tell the tale of a girl who found herself over the rainbow.
Aria smiled as she watched her husband; he was an amazing father, and the boys were so much like him in personality. Slowly, their blue eyes shut and they drifted off to sleep. James levitated them into their beds and tucked them, kissing their golden heads before joining Aria in the doorway.
“Remember when Cam dreamt he was flying and the room filled with clouds?” James whispered, pulling Aria to him and chuckling.
She grinned “The downside to having wizard children; their dreams come true.”
Pulling her down the hall, James leaned down and whispered in her ear “Our dreams came true,”
“They really did,” Aria ran her fingers down his chest and smiled, letting James pull her down onto their big bed.
In the seven years after James had found her at the train station, her life had bloomed and blossomed, flourishing under the light James had brought back to her life. The dark memories of Adam’s beating had faded over the years, and she hardly ever thought of them now. Her dreams of moving to the country…having two fair-haired boys and an auburn haired girl…marrying James had all come true, and she had made Willow Hollow her home, creating a haven for her children to grow and flourish in. The hollow full of willow trees, the brook that cut wove through them, the green forest full of life and the stone house she had made her own had become their home, and she treasured every moment she had there with her little family.
James had once said to her all those years ago when the fought that there was to much unhappiness in the world for even the ‘happily’ part in ‘happily ever after’, but Aria had found her happily, and the ever after part.
And they lived happily ever after…
