He immediately grabbed me and lifted me in a princess carry and snatched the scarlet veil off of Xiang Wen's confused and petrified face and used it to cover mine. "I will be taking Ling Bing for personal investigation." He announced, and with that an awkward silence ensued when he threw me into the carriage, as we sat face to face. I kept fidgeting nervously and then suddenly because of a bump in the road, sent my light body flying into his arms, as if by a magnetic force willed by the gods. I was never so glad to have a veil as a man over my face, I was thankful that he couldn't see the blush that was most likely as red as the veil on my face arise. But he then whispered, almost directly to my ear if it weren't for the thin silk "You're more suited as a bride than a groom. My bride." And then I scrambled off of his lap. He carried me to a small but lavishly decorated bedroom and tossed me unto the bed, then crawled above me, trapping me between his arms. Then he whispered, his eyes almost ferral and harsh "You belong to me." He lifted one of his hand, it scared me, and I flinched but at my frightened expression his eyes softened and there were sadness and an unexplainable guilt and then he left me. He didn't touch me or so I had thought. I laid in bed for awhile unable to fall asleep, stricken with guilt...Until I heard the door creak. I pretended to sleep even when warm and gentle lips touched my forehead. I knew whom the owner of those gentle lips from experience. He then returned to a chair and slowly drinking wine from the alcoholic scent and the quiet sipping while silently watching me, for who knows how long as I eventually fell asleep due to his caring gaze but he was always left before I had awoken. And apparently it happens often as it occurred again the next day. A weeks days later after I awoken from being unconscious Hong Er visited me out of concern, worry and curiosity with Han Bing in hand. "Imperial mother, what happen?! Why did Imperial father do this?!" This sweet and innocent child naively asked. I knew why he inquired, it was as different as heaven and earth. The lavish silks, expensive ingredients, daily visits, intricate accessories and rewards, and people willing to ride your coat tails that went from door to door vanished in thin air. Tattered, worn out, and thin gowns, only secretive visits at night where I had to pretend to be asleep, my accessories were given to Di Lian that he returned were all sold for food as my portion were often switched by the servants with theirs and charcoal briquettes for winter except those pair of blood jade bracelets. And the leak in the roof didn't help as it resulted in a high fever and none of the Imperial physicians came no matter how long Di Lian kneeled and big, even if her legs were bruised and her voice cracked still begging for help to the point that her lips were coated red not of makeup buy of her own blood until she crawled to find Hong Er, and if it weren't Hong Er getting his personal physician to look after me... ~A/N~ @ninikha for the suggestion of Huang Jing Xiang as the role of Han Ling
