Chapter 17

Mark's POV
Mark was hanging out at Dante's house, and told her about that she's now dating Karina

"Really?! You guys are like, a thing now? But I thought you had a crush on--" I put my hand over Dante's mouth, panicking slightly.

"Sshhhsshhsshh!! The reader is listening!" After a few moments I took my hand off her lips. She may or may not have been blushing.

"Well to answer your question, yes we are a thing now. I don't have an interest in h-- that person anymore." *buzz buzz* (that was his phone) I sighed. "It's crazy how I though he-- gosh dammit. They know the gender now.

It's crazy how I thought he might've actually liked me." I pulled my phone out of my pocket and read the text." What the fu-" Dante stared at me menacingly. She doesn't like people cursing in front of her.

"--udge nugget." That made us both smile.
"Dante I got to go. Mallori's telling me to go to Jack's house. She says it REALLY important." Dante stood up. "Okay, well I guess see you later?" I smiled.
"Sure thing sunshine!"
I walked out the door and went to my car. I hopped in and drove to Jack's house.

I got to Jack's house and stepped out of my car. The car door slammed shut and I walked up to his porch. I saw the door was cracked opened, so I stepped inside.

"Hello?" I walked even further into the house. I turned a corner and saw Karina in a corner crying.
(Try saying that 5 times fast)
Karina looked up, tears falling from her cheeks.

"Mark?" I ran over to her." Karina what wrong? Is everything okay?" She shudders
"I- I'm fine b-but I don't think Mal is.  I think there's something wrong with Jack. He's talking to himself but it's like he has two voices. He stopped talking in mid sentence so I think Mal might be in trouble."

Karina flinched and it made my heart jump. I sat down next to her, comforting her. I put my arm around her shoulder and kissed her forehead.

"Every little things gonna be alright." I said to her. She smiled, remembering it was the first song we danced to. Even if it was at my house at 2 in the morning, it was a memory to last forever.
"So could you tell me more about what was happening? You don't have to though, I don't want to push you." She stood and held her hand out for me to grab. She lifted me up and we held hands.

"You should probably find out for yourself. Walk through the kitchen into the living room. You can't hear the voices yet because all the walls are soundproof."

I gave her a kiss on the lips and cherished the moment. It was soft and sweet. I pulled back and said "I love you." She smiled. "I love you too." I started to walk away when Karina said "Hey, Mark?" I turned my head. "Ya Karina?" She sighed and twiddled her thumbs."I'll see you again alright? Don't get yourself killed."

"Alright I'll do my best. That goes same to you missy!" I replied in a fatherly voice. She smiled.
"See you soon. I love you." I kissed her lips. "I love you too." I walked into the kitchen to see Mallori and Jack kissing in the living room. Then.

There was an explosion.

Far bigger than I should've survived.

A hot, fiery, explosion.

Everything went black.

I woke up in rubble, the ashes of what used to be Jack's house.

My first thoughts went to Karina.

Was she okay??

I opened my eyes and saw dust, and brick.

I pushed it off with all my remaining strength.

It took me a while, but I got out.

I ran over the remains of Jack's house to where I thought I last saw Karina.

"Karina! Are you here? Say something!"

The cement cracked under my feet as I walked around, searching for my soulmate, buried underneath the rubble.

I heard something. I stopped moving.

"Mark?" *cough cough*
"Is that you?"

I ran towards the voice. "Karina I'm coming!"

"I'm over here"

I turned my head and saw a scratched up hand sticking out from underneath chunks of cement.
