Katie's POV
"Katie!"
My head snaps up as I close my front door. I heard a familiar voice booming from across the street. Of course it was Liam, holding open the passenger side of his Cadillac. I run over and climb into his car to catch a ride to school. Thank the Lord it's Friday, I am so done with school for the week.
I've lived across the street from Liam since I was 6. My family moved to Wolverhampton from the states when my mum got a job as a travel agent at an airport somewhere around here. I still haven't cared enough to know what it's called. Ever since then, Liam and I have been best friends. He's pretty much my only true friend. I wish we could be more than that though, I've become more attracted to him over the past couple years.
Sure, I have a couple of girl friends, but I don't like hanging out with girls that much. Too much drama for me to handle.
"You gonna miss me next week, yeah?"
"Oh, you better believe that! I don't know what I'm gonna do after school for the next 10 weeks!", I joke.
Oh, I forgot to mention. Liam's going for his second audition on The X Factor starting next Monday. I really hope he wins this time.
Liam chuckles, "I'm probably not gonna be there that long, Katie."
"With your voice on that show, they'll want you to stay longer!",I exclaim. He needs to believe in himself more. His voice is truly angelic.
He lets out a soft fit of laughter as we pull into the school's parking lot.
"See you after school?", I hear Liam say. More a statement than a question.
"Like you wouldn't ." I answer.
I grab my bag from his car and walk into the school with a smile plastered on my face.
------------------------------------------
The fourth bell of the day rings throughout the school, signaling that there is one period left in the day. By the time I walk out of my bio class, the hallway is packed. Everyone seems to be crowding around something. I feel someone glaring at me and I will myself to look back. I swivel around and catch eyes with Riley. He smirks at me, winks, and then disappears from the crowd. I try shoving through to look at what's going on, but a teacher rushes into the hall and starts shooing people to get to class. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a red blur quickly rush by.
Liam.
I don't know why those two mess with him so much. I would be honestly scared to get into a fight with Liam. He has a nice build. He lifts, boxes, an has a fairly muscular leg build from playing futbol every now and then.
I sit in the hall until about 15 minutes after 5th period has started. I'm going to be way late for my next class. Oh well. I stand up and head strait into the men's room. Yes, the men's room. It doesn't matter to me, my best friend is in there and I have no idea what happened to him.
When I see Liam, my heart drops. He looks so vulnerable and beaten. His eyes look up from a sink to meet mine in the mirror. At this moment, I want to get lost in those brown eyes so badly. I shake my head and snap out of it. He needs help. I look at him and I can tell that he doesn't want me to see him like this but I don't care.
"You know you're not supposed to be in here.", he tells me with a faint laugh.
"Everyone's in class, Li.", I reply, "Now what in bloody hell happened to you?"
"Chase and Riley.", he mumbles quietly, as he looks down at the sink and wipes blood from his temple.
"I seriously don't understand those two." I shake my head.
"Yeah. Let me know If he keeps getting on you though." he replies.
I like the fact that Liam stands up for himself-and would stand up for me-after all the bullying he went through. It makes me feel safe. That he truly cares. I know he hates to hurt people. Liam always seems to get out of the nastiest situations without laying a finger on them.
