I Promise
Chapter 3
•Liam's POV•
"I'll be ready to go in a minute, mum."
I'm driving to Liverpool today to get settled in for the X Factor tomorrow.
I spin around out the door and see Katie at the end of my driveway. I walk down and flash her a smile. She returns it. I guess it's a bit awkward since the kiss yesterday. I sit down next to her. We just sit there in silence, eyeing the ground.
After a few minutes, We stand up and she hugs me. "Good luck."
My cheeks flood hot as she plants a kiss on my cheek and she disappears back to her flat.
X Factor, here I come.
------------------------------------------
"Name?"
"Uhm, Liam Payne. From Wolverhampton." I manage to get out.
"Your number is 61898. Have fun, and good luck." She hands me a sticker to wear on stage during my audition.
I head into the room where my two weeks at boot camp will begin.
•Katie's POV•
Just my luck, the cable decided to come off and on at the time the X Factor auditions were aired. I managed to see parts of Liam's audition. His voice sounded amazing when he sang "Cry Me A River" and the judges let him know that. Which leads me to wonder why he didn't make it through the first round.
I can feel my heart crush for Liam when he's filmed backstage, crying because of his dream being smashed right in front of him.
•Liam's POV•
My name isn't called to compete in the next round. My face falls and I can't determine my emotions right now. I make my way backstage with a group of others. I say my final words to the cameras, the last they'll hear from me on the X Factor.
"Liam Payne, wait." I hear a familiar voice. Nah, it couldn't be. I whip around to find Simon Cowell in front of me.
"Can I talk to you, please?" I nod and he continues, " the other judges and I believe that you're too good to slide from our grasp. We've decided to put you in a singing group with four other lads. Would you like to stay for a few more weeks and compete?"
"Yes, yeah, I'd love to!" I pull one of my hands back behind my head, relieved.
He walks me over to meet the other boys and shows us the room we'll be staying at in the X Factor house.
We all start to settle and I can feel my phone vibrating in my pocket.
"Hello?"
"Hey Liam, I thought your audition was great." I heard Katie subtly say.
"Thank you, but don't think I'm coming home just yet." The other end is silent, waiting for me to continue. " I've been put in a band."
"That's amazing! If their voices are as strong as yours, there's no way you can loose!" I can tell that she's just as excited as I am. "You've gotta call me more."
"Sorry. I'll Skype you later, I've got to go." I throw my phone down on the couch and follow the other boys into the studio to practice the first song we'll be singing as a group. "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia.
"Liam, you'll be starting us off.", Dannii nods towards me and I sing from the words on the paper.
"I thought I saw a girl brought to life
She was warm she came around
She was dignified
She showed me what it was to cry"
***
"I'm already
I'm already torn", the one with black hair finishes the song.
We go over the song a few more times before we head back to the house for the night.
------------------------------------------
"Who's Katie?"
I drag myself to the kitchen, not hearing what Louis said. "Huh?"
"Katie?", he lifts both of his eyebrows and waves my phone around in his hands.
I snatch my phone from his grasp, remembering that I had left it on the sofa last night. "She's a friend."
"Yeah, a friend with benefits.", Louis snickers.
I unlock my phone to see he had been going through my messages. I lunge at him," Are you serious? I swear Tomlinson, I-"
"What's going on?" I'm interrupted by the curly one, being followed by the Irish one, and Zach. I think?
Neither of us answers. Irish breaks the silence, "Lets just go get ready to rehearse, yeah?"

A/N: Sooo, EXTREMELY short and boring chapter. It's just showing how Liam's getting on at the X Factor. The next chapter will be more exciting I promise (; x
