I Promise

Chapter 6

•Katie's POV•

"Let go of me right now.", I snap at him, trying not to let him know that I'm scared.

"Not until you agree to go to dinner with me." Riley smirks as he pulls me closer to him.

I gag at his stench. He must smoke a pack a day.

"I wouldn't go if was was paid." I swivel my head around a couple of times. How can no one be seeing this?

"Ah, that's right. You've got somethin' going on with pretty boy, eh?", he lights a cigarette.

I correct him. "Liam Payne."

•Liam's POV•

I tap my fingers along the steering wheel of my car. I pull out my phone to check the time, 2:38 pm. What is she doing that's taking her so long? I decide to send her a text.

Liam Payne: hey, are you ready to leave?

No reply. I wait a couple minutes before calling her. Strait to voice mail. I climb out of my car and walk towards the school. Katie's figure appears with someone else, who I can't seem to make out right now. Wait, is that. Riley?

My pace instantly becomes faster as I get closer to them.

•Katie's POV•

I look up and see Liam barreling towards us. Riley yanks me to the side of the school and restricts my arms.

"What the hell are you doing with her!", Liam screams.

He never curses. He must be really mad.

"Nothing of your concern, Payne." Riley spits back at him.

"I can handle this, Liam.", I try to sound confident. I don't want Liam getting involved with this guy again.

"I'm taking her out tonight." He gets the reaction he wants out of Liam. "Did you really believe you had a shot with this one?"

'And you believe you have a shot with me?' I realize that I've been thinking aloud when a sharp pain goes straight through my stomach. I double over, Riley elbowed me!

"Get your hands off her." Liam pins him against the brick and Riley tosses me to the side.

He drops his cigarette on Liam's skin, causing him to take his arm back in pain. Riley uses this opportunity to throw the first punch. Liam gets a couple more blows and I look to his eyes. They're a darker shade of brown. He clenches his jaw and tightly balls up his fists. Within a few seconds, Liam swings. Hard.

Wait. And correct me if I'm wrong but, Riley looks. Scared?

Liam backs away, shocked at the capability of his punch. He spins around and walks off, one of his hands at the back of his head.

I quickly scramble from the ground in effort to try and catch up with him.

"Liam! Stop.....wait!"

"I shouldn't have punched him!", he throws his arm down and continues towards the lot.

I catch his hand, "It's fine, he deserved it. He came at you first, it was self defense."

"I don't hurt people, Katie.", he runs his hand through his hair.

I don't know what to say. We get in his car and the whole ride home is silent. We pull up in my driveway and I study his face. His lip is busted open, he has a gash above his eyebrow, and a small burn runs across his forearm.
