*Dean's POV*

I hold my Baby's keys in my hand while we walk over to the cars. After a few moments thought I toss them to Sam. He looks at me, confused and surprised. "We'll meet you back at the motel." Then I give him a look telling him not to push it. After a second he nods.

"Okay. See you there." Then he gets into Baby. I look at Cas and gesture for him to get into the car with Sam. He worriedly looks from me to Angela but I don't give him time to ask questions. I jog over to Angela's car and slip into the passenger's seat just as she's starting her car. After I shut the door I look up at her to find her already looking at me.

"What?" I ask innocently. A smile hints at her mouth but instead she rolls her eyes.

"Dean, you don't have to ride with me. I'm not some broken hearted kid. I've lost things before." Her eyes look far away, remembering something from the past. Just then Sam pulls away in the Impala so now it's just us.

"Is that really what you think I'm doing here?" I look deep into her eyes, bringing her back to reality. I know she's not a child. I know she doesn't need a babysitter. I want her to know that I believe that. After a few more moments of staring, she looks away and puts the car in gear.

"No." She says and then we're back on the road.

"So what is your story, huh?" I ask. She glances over at me with slight disdain.

"My story?" She scoffs. "Trying to distract me from the fact that my house just burned to ashes with warm memories from my childhood?" She laughs. "Not gonna happen." I turn towards her a bit and my eyebrows go up. When she notices she looks over at me and sighs. "Let's just say my childhood wasn't all warm and fuzzy."

I chuckle. "Yeah well, can't say I don't understand." She looks at me curiously and this time I heave a sigh. "My mom died when I was real young. And not peacefully either. My dad...my dad raised me and Sammy. But he was gone a lot. Hunting. So it was mostly just me and my brother. Us against the world." Now my eyes get cloudy and I'm lookin way back in the past. Me cooking Sammy's breakfast lunch and dinner, me tucking Sammy in at night, me goin to Sammy's school play, me tellin Sam I'm proud of the A plus he got in class. Good times.

"Dean." Angela's voice brings me back and I look at her, meeting her light brown eyes. They're actually really beautiful. She says, "I'm sorry, Dean. About your mom and your dad." I stare at her a minute then smile a bit.

"I actually think you're the first person to say that. Thanks." She nods.

"Where is he now? Your dad." At that I look down and examine my hands.

"He, uh, he died a few years ago." I look back up at her to see her reaction. She only nods. But the look on her face is understanding, like she knows what it means to lose a parent. "Your turn." I say and look at her full on once again. I see her hands tighten slightly on the steering wheel but she begins to speak anyway.

"My dad was a marine. Killed in action when I was twelve. He just left one day and then the next time someone in uniform came to the door they were there to tell us he was dead." She pauses for a minute, out of reverence or sadness I don't know. Maybe both.

"My dad was a marine too. It's definitely a hard life." I say then pause a moment before continuing, "Look, I'm not pushing you. You don't have to-" She interrupts me and continues on.

"Then when I was almost sixteen my mom got cancer. A few months later, she was gone too. And I was an only child. It was just me. No extended family, no one. So I bounced around Orphanages and foster homes for two years. Let me tell you those places were hell. And no foster parents want a messed up teenage kid. So I was stuck there until I was eighteen and could finally get out." She sighs deeply and some of the pain that was in her voice fades. "I found this minuscule town in my mom's old diary. Which is now destroyed." She sighs again, then she looks at me for a moment. "My parents met here." I see a hint of a smile on her lips so I go for it.

"Here? In population five hundred?" She laughs with tears in her eyes but a smile on her face.

"Yeah, here. My mom worked at the library. He came running in, frantic. He was a senior in college back then and hadn't studied for an exam until the day of. So he's frantically trying to cram as much information into his head as possible before he had to book it back to school." She chuckles a little before continuing and it brings a smile to my face.

"So he runs in and immediately goes to my mom who is putting books away near the door. He just starts begging her for help. And she almost doesn't because he doesn't deserve it, waiting this long to study. But she takes pity on him and does. As luck would have it, it's a history exam and that's what my mom majored in in college. So she sat down and tutored him for about hours. Then he had to leave, but when he took out his pencil to take his exam there was a piece of paper wrapped around it. My mom had put her phone number on it." She laughs out loud and glances at me. "My dad had no idea how she put it there without him seeing. Well, he called her of course, and I guess the rest is history." Suddenly I realize we've stopped moving. We made it back to the motel. She turns off her car and then unbuckles and turns towards me.

"Thank you. Again." She shrugs and shakes her head. "Somehow you're very good at calming me down." I chuckle and nod.

"Usually I have the opposite effect on women, but thanks." That gets a real laugh from her. She leans over and puts a hand on her stomach as she laughs. Her laugh is one that makes other people laugh too. A contagious one. I chuckle along with her, all the while just staring at her. Noticing how her nose crinkles when she laughs, how she laughs with her whole body, how her front teeth are slightly crooked, and how, despite everything that has happened today, she can still laugh.

After she stops and opens her eyes and finds me staring at her, she looks at me weird and her eyebrows furrow. "What?" She asks. I blink and just shake my head.

"Nothin, it's just uh, you know what you said about my smile? How I should do it more often?" I smile a bit just from the memory while she nods. "I could say the same about your laugh." A big smile lights up her face. She chuckles then just looks at me.

"You are something else, Dean Winchester." I shrug.

"It's been said." I say with confidence. Then I give her a wink for sarcastic emphasis. Then I get out of the car and wait for her in front of it. Since baby is already here, we both know Sam and Cas are waiting inside. She gets out and walks over to me. We just stand there, facing each other. She's looking down and I'm looking straight at her.

"So Dean."

"So Angela." I imitate her then smile when she looks at me with a slight scowl. She punches me in the shoulder then surprises me by taking her arms and wrapping them around my neck in a hug. After a second of shock I wrap my arms around her waist, tight. I guess she's a hugger, like Garth. But unlike his hugs, I would happily hug Angela anytime. I breathe in deeply. Her fragrance has faded a bit but there's still a hint of her shampoo smell left in the waves of her hair.

I lean down a little and put my mouth next to her ear. Then I whisper to her for the second time today, "I'm sorry about everything that happened today." I feel her nod and then she pulls away and looks into my eyes. She moves her hands from my shoulders to my face and her thumb gently glides along my cheek bone. Then she leans in like she's going o kiss me, but at the last second moves and kisses my cheek.

Her kiss is soft, quick, and tender. It's more care than I've been shown in a long time. Then she steps back and smiles, "Ready to go inside?"

"To be honest I could just stay out here." I say and give her a sly smile. She cocks her head and gives me a slightly amused smile.

"Well then you'll be out here by yourself." She says and then winks at me. She heads to the door and heads inside. I head in right behind her.
