He looked at me and I instantly knew, this was something, something that would affect my life for a long time.
"Riley!!" My mom called. "Yea mom, I'm coming!" I said back. "Hurry, we're leaving soon!" She said. "Mom, I'm ready don't worry." I said my voice getting lighter as I walked closer to her, coming down the stairs. "Good, let's head out." She said. We were going on vacation for a couple weeks. It was the first time we had been somewhere far from home since... It happened. "Let's go Riley and close the door behind you!" Mom yelled from the car window. I put my shoes on fast and ran to the car, closing the door behind me.
We drove for hours, it seemed like forever. This vacation we're go to Florida. We're staying there with my grand-parents, they moved there about 3yrs ago and wanted us to come down and visit. Mom and I moved to New York about a year after... the incident back home in Colorado. Mom doesn't like talking about it, she lost contact with a lot of friends and family then. "Riley." mom said. I had earbuds in, so I couldn't hear her. "Riley!" mom yelled tapping me on the shoulder. "Yea mom?" I said taking one earbud out, getting my mind out of daydreaming. "We're close to a rest stop, go in and get some snacks while I get gas." She said. "Ok." I replied. Mom finally pulled up in to a gas station. I unbuckled and ran in after mom handed me money. I grabbed 2 bags of Doritos, mom a cup of coffee, and a slurpy for me. I payed up at the cash register and headed back to the car. I heard a voice behind me "Miss?!" "Miss?!" It called. I turned around and the manager came up to me. "Hey, is this your phone?" He asked. "Yea, thanks." I said. My mom came up to see what all the commotion was about. "Hi, can I help you?" She said approaching. "I was just giving her phone back, she left it by the chips aisle." the manager said. "Oh, how thoughtful." she said. We walked back to the car and back on the road it was. Mom started singing so I put both earbuds back in and started day dreaming again. This is gonna be one long vacation.
