A very unhappy looking Gary was waiting for me when the last bell of the day went.

Not in the mood for an argument, I got in the car in silence.

Fifteen minutes later, and without a single word being exchanged, he parked the S.U.V. in front of Matt’s house. I quickly got off and was headed to the front door when he called me,

“Miss Cook?”

I turned around with a frown.

“Hmm?”

“The game is at 7 so be ready for 6:30…”

“Ok.” I mumbled and resumed walking.

“Are you planning on going to the after game party?” He called out.

“No.” I answered loudly enough for him to hear me.

The first thing I noticed when I got in was the brand new board and the wetsuit waiting for me in Matt’s bedroom.

I touched the freshly waxed board and admired the beautiful floral pattern adorning it. I smiled when I saw the same pattern on the side of the extra thick wetsuit that had been placed on top of it and on the cute bikini I found underneath.

It didn’t take me long to discard my uniform and get changed.

Let’s go surfing!

I stood on the sand for about five minutes to get acquainted with the spot.

There didn’t seem to be any rocks, only this dreamy looking white sand. The tide was coming up and the waves looked pretty promising.

I took a deep breath and ran into the water.

Flipping heck! It’s freezing cold!

I started paddling to warm myself up and was soon out of breath after duck diving under a fifth oncoming wave in less than two minutes.

Damn, it’s rougher than in Anglet!

I duck dived under another two waves before finally reaching the safety of the line-up where I sat on my board for a short while to catch my breath.

It felt so good to be back on a board, it was like my whole body had suddenly been refueled.

I started paddling to get ready to ride my very first Californian wave and I felt free for the first time in two days, as I stood up and started sliding down the powerful swell.

Biiiiiiiip… Biiiiiiip…

I was suddenly brought back to reality when I realized that the annoying beeping came from my watch’s alarm, which I had set knowing that I’d lose track of time once in the water.

It was now 5:45 and I had forty five minutes to shower and get ready for the game.

Nate was waiting for me when I made it to the shore.

“You’re good.” His normally teasing voice sounded dead serious.

I looked at him with an eyebrow raised and my head slightly tilted to show him that he wasn’t fooling me and asked him,

“What do you want, Nate?”

He ignored my question and shook his head slowly.

“Whatever, Maya… Anyway, let me show you Matt’s great facilities.”
