“Nice to meet you…” My statement sounded more like a question as that Peter dude was now openly glaring at me. “Is there a problem?” I added.
“Nope. No problem at all.” He spat before stomping back to his desk.
“Don’t worry about him…” Nate tried to reassure me.
“Hmm… Whatever…” I mumbled. I couldn’t face any more drama.
Matt who’d disappeared right after hearing my “Ultimate video game” theory, came back at that moment, followed by Tom and Dean.
“Maya,” His raspy voice sent thrills all over my body.
They were short lived however, as he added, “We need to go and meet some people out of town.”
He paused to study my reaction.
“But before we do, I wanted to hear what else you’d gathered from reading the folder…”
“Why do you want to know? My ideas are stupid anyway…” I answered in a high-pitched voice I didn’t recognize.
Am I pouting???
I gasped, startled to see how sad the prospect of being away from him made me feel.
Tom finally broke the stunned silence that had fallen upon the four of us.
“Don’t give us that girly shit, Fav Coz?!”
His anger made me feel even worse for some reason.
“Tom!” Dean and Matt growled at the same time.
“What?!” He snapped.
I decided to woman-up a bit before things got out of hands.
“The video.” The three boys instantly focused all their attention back on me. “It’s soon going to get there…” I paused deep in thoughts. “Although I’m pretty sure they’re going to shoot a new one with American teenagers this time… You know, to make it more relatable…”
They were nodding.
“Well, I was thinking that if you were capable of gathering all these emails and stuff, surely, you’d be capable of sending an email to every teen – you could actually send it to everybody - with a self-destruct date or something containing a program or virus, whatever you call these things, that would prevent the video to be played, and thus, sent to all the contacts of its recipient…”
“That’s actually a fucking good idea, Fav Coz! I’m going to tell the guys…” Tom said patting my head. Dean followed him.
“Can I talk to you for a minute?” Matt asked motioning for me to come with him.
I nodded and followed him outside on the terrace. I sat next to him on a dark grey loveseat and looked out at the ocean.
He cleared his throat before reaching for my hand. It looked so small next to his.
I shivered when he slid his strong fingers through mine, and I briefly closed my eyes to savor the warmth that instantly spread inside of me.
“So, like I said, we have to go meet some people…” He stopped as if unsure of how to phrase his next words.
I can’t explain how, but I knew he wanted to ask me about my earlier reaction so I turned to face him and asked,
“Are you all going?”
He nodded. I turned away to hide my disappointment.
“How long are you going to be away for?” My voice cracked a bit.
