you said you'd buy me peach trees,
then your harsh words blazed into forest fires,
demolishing the fruit we'd begun to grow.
because of you
I associated peach trees with lost hope, bleak disappointment
and the bittersweet taste of what could have been.now, thanks to her
seeds of restored trust have been sown;
my garden was once scorched to ashes
yet life can still flourish.
she rekindled the spark in my heart which you extinguished.
now the garden is in full bloom
as I blossom and grow,
from the shrinking violet you made me
into a hopeful rose.
now peach trees have a new meaning
they signify fresh hope and nurturing love,
kind words and pretty brown eyes
so overwhelmingly caring, warm and wonderful
that I don't even think of your ice-grey ones anymore.
