Adley.
"I love you, Ashton, with all of my heart, but with everything going on with Noah and my mom and everything I think it would be better if we just took a break for a little while."
I'd repeated the phrase in my head over and over and over again.
I had gone through every single thing I thought Ashton might say, from the best to the worst case scenario.
But, nothing could have prepared me for the feeling I would get when I saw his face drop and those tears form in his eyes.
"Please, Ads, don't do this. We can work something out! Just please don't leave..." he begged, keeping his grip on my hand tight as if it would keep me there.
"I'm sorry, Ash, but I need some time to myself right now."
"But what about me? I'm going to miss you so much," he whimpered, letting a few tears spill over.
"I'm going to miss you too, but this has to be done," I said softly.
"We had such a good day, though."
With every word my desire to stay with him and never let him go grew stronger, but I knew that would only put him in danger in the long run, and I couldn't have that.
"I know, trust me, I know. Luke's going to come stay with you, okay?"
He didn't say anything, only reaching out for a hug.
I fell against him, letting his scent engulf me one last time before I wouldn't be able to see him for who know's how long.
I felt his tears drop into my hair, breaking my heart into smaller and smaller pieces with every single one.
Luke showed up just in time, not giving me the chance to let my walls crumble.
"Well, that's my cue. I'll see you later, Ash, this isn't goodbye forever," I assured.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
I reluctantly stood up, leaving Ashton on the couch, sobs racking his body.
"I can't do this,"I cried to Luke, looking back at Ashton.
"Yes you can. He's going to be okay and you're going to come back as soon as everything's taken care of. He might not know that, but you do," he reminded me.
I sighed.
"You're right...But I better get out of here before I change my mind."
Luke nodded in agreement.
"You guys are going to be okay."
"Thank you, for everything. I'll let you know how it goes at the police station. I'm headed there now."
"Yeah, I'll keep you updated and I'll call if anything happens."
With that, I miraculously managed to drag myself out of the house and into the car.
The sound of Ashton's sobs seemed to play in an endless loop in my mind, not stopping until I finally reached the station.
All eyes were on me as I approached the front desk.
"Can I help you, young lady?" An older woman asked, peering over her glasses to look up at me.
"Uh, I need to file a police report on my abusive boyfriend, ex-boyfriend," I quickly corrected.
"Do you have evidence of this abuse?" she asked, her voice showing no emotion whatsoever.
"No?" I stated, but it sounded more like a question.
