Sam was dying.

There was no doubt about it.

Cas didn't want to believe it, but when he saw Sam laying in the hospital bed, barely hanging on, he knew for sure.

Sam's eyes opened to just a slit and he looked at Cas, Dean, and Gabe, he smiled ever so slightly. "Hey, guys," He whispered out.

"Hey Sammy." Dean softly said to his little brother, tears slowly rolling down his cheeks.

Gabe waved a bit, his own tears falling. "Hi Sam."

Cas was trembling and crying so much, that he couldn't even say hi to his own husband.

Sam opened his eyes a bit more and looked at him. "Cassie?"

"S-Sam..." Cas' lip trembled as his spoke, voice cracking ever so slightly.

Sam weakly raised his hand to Cas and he took it without hesitation.

"Cas, stop crying..."

"Sam... I-I can't. I don't want to lose you... I don't want you to leave me. You said you wouldn't, remember?"

"Cas, I know... I remember... I'm sorry I can't keep that promise... You know I wouldn't leave on normal circumstances... But... I'm dying, Cas. I can't control this..."

Cas started crying harder when Sam said those words.

"Cas... I don't want you to keep grieving... Live your life. You have friends and family that love you... They'll help you get through this... All I ask is that you remember me... Remember all the good things... None of the bad... Keep fighting, Cas. That's what I want you to do..."

"Sam... I-"

"Promise me, Castiel."

"I... I promise."

"Good." Sam looked over at Dean. "And you, keep being a jerk."

Dean smiled sadly. "I will, bitch."

Sam then looked at Gabe. "And you, stop cheating in video games."

"I can't promise that, Sam." Gabe smiled a bit at him and rubbed his eyes.

Sam looked at the two. "I'm sorry I won't be able to make it to your wedding... I'll look down on you guys and watch it."

Gabe gave him a very soft hug. "Thanks, Sam."

Dean kissed his brother's head. "Thank you, Sammy."

Cas kissed Sam's lips one more time. "I love you, Sam."

"I love you too, Cas... I love you all... I'll see you all... One... Day..."

A long beep filled the room and Sam's hands went limp in Cas'.

Sniffling, Cas squeezed Sam's hand once before gently placing it on the bed.

The three got pushed out the room as doctors and nurses filled the room.

Dean looked down and Cas and Gabe and immediately pulled them both into a hug.

They all sank to the floor of the hospital, hugging, holding each other, and crying.

Gabe lost his best friend.

Dean lost his little brother.

Cas lost his husband.

The three sobbed and sobbed, holding each other for comfort.

Cas kept repeating one thing in his head.

'You promised.'
