The memories of last night left your heart beating a thousand times faster. You hadn't seen Cedric since he'd dropped you off near the entrance of the dungeons last night. Classes had been canceled due to some unknown drama involving the Potter boy. You didn't have a problem with that, until your owl had delivered a letter the next morning. A letter that brought your entire life crashing down on top of you.
You were sat against the wall of the astronomy tower, re-reading the letter, until you had it memorized. Your heart sunk and your stomach dropped. What was going to happen now? You started into the distance, watching a few of the first years running around the courtyard. You missed being young. You missed not having to worry about all of the drama and hell you were going through now. Closing your eyes, you laid your head against the wall, contemplating what to do next. It was all so complicated.
"I thought I'd find you up here. I haven't seen my girl all day. I was starting to get worried." Cedric stood in front of you, causing you to jolt upwards. He held a beautiful bouquet of white roses in his hand. You took them as he sat down next to you, wrapping an arm around your waist. You looked at him wearily. "What's wrong, Baby?"
You wrinkled your nose, cringing slightly. "Baby? Where did you come up with that? It makes me seem weak." Cedric snickered at your reaction.
"I thought I'd give you a pet name. Something special so everyone knows you're my girl. (Y/N/N) caught on just like I said it would, but now that we're together I needed something better. So no other guy would..."
"We can't be together, Cedric! It's not going to work." His grin fell, as he took in the serious look present on your features. He turned to face you, staring straight into your eyes. You shifted uncomfortably.
"Why not? I thought you loved me. Or did you forget about that?" His voice was dangerously low as he spat out the words. "What happened to all of those things we said last night? I thought you wanted this? What happened to please don't leave me? Or was that all a joke to you?" His voice turned cold. Your eyes burned with tears.
"Of course not! I meant every word I said last night. Every single word. I do love you, Cedric. More than anything. But..." He cut you off. You reached for his hand but he snatched it away, angrily. He was fuming.
"But what, (Y/N)? Maybe you're right. Maybe this won't work. Every time we're together there always seems to be some kind of drama. Last night you told me you loved me and today you tell me we can't be together! What could have made you change your mind that quickly?" He asked, his voice rising. Your anger boiled. Why wouldn't he listen?
"I didn't change my mind about anything! Maybe if you'd listen and let me explain, we wouldn't be having this fight!" You jumped to your feet, throwing the letter at him. You leaned against the railing once again, clutching your temples as he read aloud.
"(Y/N). Your mother and I have received word from Mr. Filch that he has seen you sneaking around past curfew, more than once! Last night we were informed that you were seen with a Hufflepuff! I don't know what your doing out after hours, or why you're even associating yourself with members of other houses, but I suggest you stop this outlandish behavior! There will be consequences if I have to send any more of these letters! I don't think you want to relive Holiday break! And it won't just be you who receives them if I hear of this again!" Cedric's hands were shaking as he finished reading. He hauled himself to his feet, crossing the tower to stand behind you. His arms wound themselves around your waist as he rested his head on top of yours. "I'm so sorry (Y/N/N)!"
"What do we do, Ced? I don't want to lose you. I told you, I meant every word I said last night. But I don't know what else we can do besides break up. I don't want anything to happen to you. If he finds out I didn't heed his warning he'll hurt you. I mean you read what he wrote." Cedric shook his head, holding you tighter, breathing in the scent of your hair.
"Don't worry about me, baby. I'll be fine. I'm more worried about your safety. You're the one who has to live with him." You released an exasperated sigh.
"It's nothing new. I'm used to it by now. But you're right, there's always some kind of drama when we're together. Maybe you would be better off without me?" His grip on your waist tightened even more. He shook his head, ruffling your hair as he did so.
"Absolutely not. I can't live without you. I can't. And I won't. We just started this, we can't end it. Not now. Not ever. Maybe we can see each other in secret. No one has to know we're dating. As long as I have you and you love me then that's enough." You stared out into the courtyards, where students were having a drama free day off.
"Cedric, that's what we've been doing. And they still caught us. I don't know what to do. I don't want to leave you, but I can't let you go through the hell I go through."
"There's got to be something we can do!" You racked your brain, trying to figure out another solution. Suddenly Cedric's face lit up. "What if we avoid seeing each other for these last 2 weeks of school, then over Holiday you can tell your father you're spending summer with a friend. And you can stay with me." You had to admit it was a brilliant plan. Your father never asked about your friends and if your mother tricked him into thinking it was a pureblood family he wouldn't suspect a thing. And you were sure that he wouldn't miss you over Holiday. But there was only one problem.
"What about Matt? I can't leave him to fend for himself all summer?" Cedric scrubbed his face in frustration, before his face lit up again, a new idea forming in his head.
"Didn't you say, earlier this year, that Matt was going to be spending the summer with that Malfoy kid? " You grinned. A perfect plan was falling into place. Cedric kissed you, gently. A grin spreading to his own face. "I told you we'd figure something out."
