Your POV

I opened my mouth to scream.

Zane.

Killed.

Garroth.

Zane just killed his own brother! I could feel the tears gather at the edges of my eyes, threatening to spill. I gulped and picked up my sword, aiming for the back of Zane's head. I threw it, watching it fly through the air. Just as the sword was about to hit Zane's skull, he turned. The sword implanted itself in his nose, resulting in a screech of pain on his part.

He pulled the sword out and dropped it to the ground. Aphmau turned to smile at me before advancing. I did so as well. Zane dropped his weapons, which we picked up. He was helpless, backed up against a wall. Aphmau pulled out her sword as I called mine back to me. It flew into my palm comfortably, ready for the next swing.

I folded my wings. They merged with my back, it felt good. I stopped in front of Zane, scouting him. Aphmau readied her weapons. I raised my sword to swing, but stopped right before it hit his face. Why can't I seem to hurt him!?  I grit my teeth and looked into his eyes. He looked back at me, and smirked. He then looked back, yelled one single word, and turned his focus back to us.

At first, Aphmau and I didn't know what was going on, but when I got a scrape on my knee, I knew.

Shadows.

They only showed themselves if you were wounded, or a spirit of pure evil. I looked back at Zane. If he saw these creatures, it was true that he was being possessed. I turned and wheeled to fight, Aphmau did the same.

At first my shadows were humans in battle armor, then they changed to mythical beasts, and then a mix. I growled as I saw them change shape, making it even harder for me. I slashed a hole in one, but it regrew it's...corpse? I snarled and slashed my way through the crowd, using my big wings as a shield.

There was only one known way to defeat shadows.

TO KILL THIER MASTER.

I charged at Zane, eyes ablaze. I stabbed my sword through his heart, as much as it pained me to do so. He looked down in surprise, and started to gurgle black blood. I watched tearfully as he died, withering slowly in front of me. I changed from my demon form into my human form and bent down beside him, watching him intently.

He snarled and clawed at me, making me jump back.

"Come on (Y/n), let's leave this nuisance to himself," Aphmau said coldly. I nodded and got up, following her to the others. I couldn't help but take my eyes off Garroth's body as we supervised the weak.

"Should we clean this up?" I asked, pointing to the blood and gore. Aphmau nodded.

"Yeah. Um, do you want to take care of Garroth?"

I nodded, tears still in my eyes. I bent down and took his cold hand, pressing it against my cheek. I sobbed quietly and hauled him onto my shoulder, eyes glistening at the weight. I wrapped my right arm around his waist and let the other carry my sword. I walked towards the door, looking back only once.

It was lucky that I did.

Zane was looking up at me, eyes clouded with hate. He knew he was dying, and he couldn't do anything about it. I gulped and gave him eye contact one last time. I watched as he slowly accepted his fate, pained and slow...

But wait.

I saw a trace of the old boy in his eyes, a reminder of the friend I once used to have. I let out a child-like wail and ran over, Garroth still in my arms. Aphmau watched with surprise as I ran over to Zane. I set Garroth down gently beside Zane and looked at him. Zane looked back up at me, eyes now blue. His skin returned to it's pale color, his black and white suit changed to a ripped Highschool uniform, and his blood changed to red.
