Your POV
I finished packing up the last of my things, then made my way out to the bus. Zane and I were assigned the same seat, so this would be a little awkward, but it was my perfect chance to apologize. I ran outside and glanced at the front board, where they posted where each bus was. I saw my number and ran toward it, hoping that Zane was already there.
I knocked on the bus doors, which were closed, and they opened. The bus driver completely ignored me as I walked up, grumpy as usual. I rolled my eyes and walked to my seat. Unfortunately, Zane wasn't there yet.
Bored, I grabbed my phone, tapping in the pass-code. I went on Instagram to see if he posted anything, but there was nothing new. The 'awesome girlfriend' post was still up there, so I don't know why he kept it. He must be so hurt right now...
I looked up at the sound of footsteps. Zane was walking over to the seat, looking very serious. He sat down next to me, but as far away as possible. He turned away from me and got out his own phone.
"Zane?" I asked softly, pressing the power button on my phone. It immediately shut off, and I turned to look at him.
"Mm?" Zane grumped, still avoiding eye contact with me.
"I... know that you feel hurt because of what happened before, and I wanted to say that I'm sorry."
Zane took a deep breath, shaky and long. I bit my lip cautiously, wondering whether he forgave me or not. At this rate, I was so intent on watching Zane that I didn't notice the bus had started to move.
Finally, Zane looked at me. I gasped at the sight of him. His eyes were all puffy and red, and glistening with tears.
"Do you really mean that, (Y/n)?" Zane breathed. "Or do you want me to go rot in hell? Be honest."
"Rot in what? I don't remember ever saying something like that-"
"Oh, sure you don't! Have you been cheating on me with Gene all this time? Just to break me?"
My mouth dropped open. I honestly didn't remember what I said to Zane, I just remembered what he looked like. I knew that I did something wrong, as he normally wouldn't look that sad.
"No! Zane, I honestly feel bad, and I'm apologizing to you because I feel that way. So, will you accept my apology?"
Zane bit his lip. "(Y/n), I want to believe you, I really do, but I just... can't."
Suddenly, the bus jerked to a stop. I looked out the window to find that it was our stop. Zane pulled his backpack strap over his shoulder and stood up. I stood up too.
"Bye (Y/n)," Zane choked, walking out the doorway. I frowned, walking out after him. I noticed Zane was walking faster than usual, so I started to run after him.
"Zane, wait!" I called, jogging at a slow pace. Zane glanced back, then started to run. I just continued to chase after him.
I followed him past his house, into a green clearing. I recognized this place, it was where I first met Zane. He pushed past the plants in his way and ran in the direction of the bench area.
"Zane!" I screamed. Zane looked back angrily.
"Just leave me ALONE!"
I cringed, knowing he was really mad. His dark side wouldn't normally take over at anything...
Heartbroken, I slowed down, giving up. Zane looked back and saw that I was walking, so he only started to run faster. I sighed, turning away. I just had to face it, we were over. And all because of that stupid Gene!
