Requim and I crouched atop the rooftop looking down on them as they filed into the grungy looking pub. Men and women marched up and down the street following the same path, how had they not noticed everything here seemed to played out.

I watched a couple that had just walked down the street turn and head back up like they were stuck in a rut.

“This doesn’t seem right Requim.” I murmured scowling down at the people.

He looked at me and nodded his head, “We’ve seen this tactic before Cee. They know we would be here, somebody sold us out.”

My body stiffened, “Should we… leave?” I asked turning and looking at him.

His snow white eyes closed and he shook his head, “It’s not my call. If you think we should split here then we should.”

A loud commotion up the street drew my attention, Gengian soldiers stormed down the street riding on large horses their paws digging into the sandy stone street.

“If we leave them they’ll die.” I cursed under my breath, “We have no choice Requim.”

“I’m right behind you.”

We both rose up to our feet and stepped forward falling onto the street below casting up clouds of sand our cloaks billowing out around us. Men and women veered away crying out as they scurried like mice back into their holes to hide.

My hands closed over Nina and Nona, I was ready for a fight. But not out in the open like this, we needed something much more manipulative. Turning on my heel I marched inside the pub, Jaeson, Paz, Nat and Aierah were nowhere to be see. I could still catch their scent through the stench of sweat and dirty ale.

There was a disturbing looking fellow behind the bar rubbing the counter down. When he looked up at me I felt my blood still. Daemon, he was a dark Daemon. The door behind us burst open the guards marched in.

“Requim the guy behind the counter!” I shouted turning around pulling out my guns and opening fire on them.

The concentrated blasts of the fire magic  incinerated the men where they stood turning their bodies to ash.  The pub exploded with battle. The guards didn’t know who to go after, one of the men with a long spear thrust it forward catching my right ear and the hood pulling it back. I snarled my ears pulling up against the sides of my head.

“Find the Princess she’s in here!”

Requim growled swinging his mace around and wiping out three men at once, the heavy spiked ball fell to the floor cracking it.

“Mhercee!” He shouted swinging the mace around again and knocking a clear path to the bar.

I glanced back at him and nodded their scent path led that way, I could also smell something cold and musty. Focusing my attention back on the bastards who had come to find Nat I opened fire. When my shots missed they hit the wood walls, the room went up in flames.

Nobody would follow us, I would make damn sure of that. Requim grabbed my arm and dragged me through the brawl that ensued between the thugs in the pub and the officers raiding it for the princess.

I was thrown over the bar top landing behind it. The wall was slightly ajar cold musty air seeped out finding its way to me stuffing up my nose.

Without waiting for an invitation both Requim and I pushed through the doorway, because I went first I had the uncomfortable job of tumbling ungracefully down a set of stone stairs. When I hit bottom I was able to recover in time to see Requim setting the wood door panel back in place. Once the building burnt down it wouldn’t matter they would come after us.
