Delaney sat at the uncomfortable brown desk

Delaney sat at the uncomfortable brown desk. She focused as she chipped away at her freshly painted, dark blue nails.

"Let's ditch." She heard a voice speak up.

Delaney looked up to see her best friend, his unruly curly hair draped messily over his forehead.

"I'm pretty sure we can't ditch class. Especially since we're already in it." Delaney explained, looking around at the students piling in, ready for class.

"Del, come on." The boy urged, placing his hand atop his friend's.

The girl sighed, letting Lip know she had caved in. He grinned and pulled at the girl's hand, desperate to get out of the classroom.

Once the two teens were outside of the school building, Lip suggested they go to their favorite place, the library. As ironic as it sounds, both teens did enjoy reading, they just hated applying themselves to their schoolwork. Delaney had been there when Lip decided to read a Physics textbook at the age of 14, and Lip was there when Delaney submitted her first writing piece to the Northside's newspaper, which they ultimately turned down due to her being underage at a measly 13. It was the one place where both friends could go to escape from their families and anyone from school, especially because the entire student body would prefer wasting their brain cells at stealing cars and beating the shit out of people than actually picking up a book.

"Ah Mr. Gallagher, Ms. Rodriguez, I put aside a few new books we received this month for you, come, follow me." Gertrude, the older librarian spoke to the two teens as they entered the ancient building.

Gertrude had been working at the library for as long as Delaney could remember, she was pale, with shoulder-length gray hair. However, she hardly had it down, her hair was almost always in a tight bun, when Delaney asked why, Gertrude had responded with 'When my hair is down, it goes into my eyes, I don't have time to keep fixing it, I much rather be reading.'

However Delaney being 6, had a hard time understanding, so the older woman had told her, 'When my hair is down, it blocks my ears, which makes it harder for me to learn, and learning is important.'

The friends followed the older woman to the back of the building, watching as she picked a few books off of a cart sitting nearby.

"Philip, these are some of the new robotics books we received, I believe there is one that also talks about science throughout the ages, you must tell me what you think," Gertrude spoke, struggling to pass the group of heavy books to the boy.

"Thank you, Gertrude, I'll tell you all about them once I finish." Lip smiled towards the older woman.

"And for you Delaney, I saved some of literature's finest works. From Jane Eyre to Stephen King. I also threw in the Iliad, by Homer. It was one of your father's favorites."
