"Shouldn't we have gotten to the car by now??!!!" I asked impatiently. My face was pinkish red and peeling because of the sun. I got sunburned anywhere my skin was exposed. My feet were aching, swollen and covered in dust. I couldn't have been more thirsty than ever in my life.

Simon looked around a bit, squinting his eyes to see. Then he stopped and took a deep breath. He looked worn out and tired. His hair was sticking all over the place from the heat and his sweat. He was still holding his water bottle even though it had been gone a long while ago.

"Yea we should have." He said while licking his lips. He did it over and over again yet his lips still remained cracked dry. I felt bad for him. He looked terrible.

"Maybe we should just go back." I suggested, putting my arm up to block some of the sun.

"It probably wouldn't be a good idea, I mean what are we going to do back there?? Find a different road and hope it's the right one this time.?"

"No, we should tell someone what happened and ask to use their phone and call your dad."

"He doesn't have any service, and plus he probably left by now, we already have been walking for 3 hours!!! And that's not even counting the time it took us to get to the city!"

"He wouldn't have just left us. I mean maybe to go look for us since we have been gone for a long time." I said while starting to bite my nails. I was starting to get nervous since it was starting to get late. It was about mid afternoon. Simon must have noticed me starting to get nervous because he put his arm around me.

"Hey we will get through this." He said. I looked into his eyes.

"I mean come on." He said with a laugh. " It's like we're on a big hike or something. A big adventure! He said while putting his fists in the air and smiling at me like he just got done winning a marathon.

"I guess. A big adventure!" I yelled while smiling back at Simon. He grabbed my hand and we kept walking away from the city.

                                         .......................

The moon was just visible behind some clouds, creating a neutral moonlight glow. The temperature had dropped creating a cool breeze, yet still humid. But it wasn't as bad as earlier this morning.

I could no longer feel the warmth from Simon's hand. I couldn't remember exactly when we had let go but it was around the time the sun was setting.

I felt like passing out and my tongue was super dry. It hurt to talk or smile because of my cracked lips. I havnt had water in over 6 hours and all day I have been in the scorching hot sun. I stopped walking.

"We need to stop and take a break. I can't walk anymore."

Simon looked at me with sunken eyes and then down the road.

"Ok." He could barely choke out the word. He walked over to me and sat down just to the side of the road. I sat down next to him and he wrapped his arm around me. I could still smell a little bit of his cologne even though he was drenched in sweat. I layed my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. I was so tired. Simon shifted us so that we were both laying down next to the road and my head was now on his chest. I saw Simon close his eyes. He looked more tired than me. I slowly shut my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
