Chapter 20

BILL

Bill woke up with Wirt's face directly over his.

"You're awake!" Wirt exclaimed.

Bill threw Wirt to the side. "WHY DID YOU WAKE ME UP?!"

Wirt looked confused and shocked. "What're you talking about?! You fainted! Of course I had to wake you up! What happened?!"

"You ruined everything!!" Bill hissed loudly and threw the closest branch he could find at Wirt.

Wirt dodged it.

"Were you dreaming about Greg...? Did you see him? Is he with the Beast?" Wirt asked cautiously.

"No, I didn't see your darling baby brother!" Bill yelled, outraged. His fists were balled up, it was hard not to throw a punch. "You ruined it!"

Wirt only looked at Bill, trying to be understanding in Bill's moment of rage. "What did you see?" Wirt asked.

Bill glared at him, then at the ground, then closing his eyes. Bill wanted so badly to talk about seeing Dipper, but then again, he also wanted so badly not to ever talk about Dipper. Dipper was his secret, Dipper was... Dipper was no one else's concern but Bill's.

"I saw...something I've been looking for." Bill's face was pained and his eyes were still tightly shut. "But I couldn't figure out how to get to it. Then you woke me up."

Wirt thought about attempting to read Bill's mind to figure out what he had seen in the dream, but he decided against it. Wirt wanted Bill to trust him, and any attempt to sneak into his brain wasn't going to help that goal. He waited a few seconds for Bill to open his eyes again before asking another question.

"The thing you've been looking for... Could I help you find it?" Wirt asked, seriously.

Bill rolled his eyes but didn't give an answer. Bill didn't actually have any idea. He didn't have any idea about any of this, about dreaming, about dreaming about Dipper, about the uncomfortable feeling in his chest. Bill looked at Wirt.

Wirt met Bill's eyes.

Bill hung his head slightly. "I don't want to kill him."
