Then I woke up. Trilish knocked on my door shortly after I had caught my breath.
"Come in." I told her. She opened the door, with a slight smile on her face. She held a tray of breakfast foods.
"Good morning darling! How did you sleep?"
"I've had better dreams, but it's okay." I told her. She nodded. She placed the platter of food beside me.
"You look a little pale. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I'm fine." She frowned at my response.
"I'll level with you, I know what happened last night. I know everything. I'm so sorry sweetie. He really loves you and I know you love him. You shouldn't be punished for this." I nodded.
"I would just...prefer not to talk about it. I like your stripes. They're very cute." I told her. She smiled, accepting the subject change.
"Yes, I've always felt that I was very feline." She mimed clawing in the air. We both laughed and she handed me a glass of orange juice. I chugged it down and ate a slice of toast.
"You've got a big day. We'll be in twelve soon. I'll get you ready when we get there." She said as she left my room. I sat down on my bed, resting my head against the wall. My leg hurt. Why the hell did my leg hurt? Oh. Yeah. Amee. It was then that I decided to call my parents. There was a phone in my room and I had just dialed them when Finnick let himself in. He sat next to me.
"Hi momma!" I chirped into the phone.
"Oh hello Annie! How's the tour going?"
"We're almost at 12. But I have a bit of bad news. Can you put me on so everyone hears?"
"I suppose so Annie." She said.
"ANNIE!!!" I heard Amee cheer into the phone. I forced back tears. She had only turned 12 a month ago.
"Hi baby girl. Hi everyone." I said. They all greeted me.
"Amee, I just found out something. They're going to have you as a tribute this year in the Games." I told her. My family congratulated her.
"Momma, Poppa this isn't a good thing." I told them.
"Don't worry Annie, I'll go in her place." My other sister Allany said. She was older, around 15 and had trained.
"Will they let her?" Momma asked me.
"I believe so, just start doing the paperwork now. It's hard to volunteer in 4, you know that." I told them.
"Thank you for letting us know Annie. We'll be sure to have them train harder." Poppa said.
"I love you guys."
"We love you too." They said back and I hung up. My head went back to the wall.
"Yeah I called my Dad earlier. Let him know." Finnick replied. I nodded.
"That's...that's good. They should all know." I replied. We sat in silence.
"You killed a kid in 12 didn't you?"
"No. Romos did." We worked as a duo when he lived, planning on staying that way till the end of the games and then playing a deadly hide and seek game. It's what we agreed on. In the cornucopia, we were slashing everywhere. And anyone that got in our way, well they were dead. We did amazing kills together. At one point I had slashed the intestines out of a boy from 8, while Romos maced a kid from 12 in the face. We did acrobatic stunts that every kid learns in 4 while in the water. Backflips and jumps. I heard we were the face of the games for a bit.
