Until that night, at least. I went into Finnick's room to shower, and while I was in there I hear him dial his phone. I listened from the shower.
"Hi beautiful." I heard him say. I could feel my heart nearly stop. He was calling someone else beautiful? I felt like that word had been reserved for me.
"I'm not doing anything, just on that girl's Victory tour."
That girl? THAT GIRL?
"Annie. Yeah. She's nice and all but, she can get annoying. Finnick this and Finnick that."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I decided not to listen anymore. I finished my shower and got dressed. I heard him get off the phone. I put his necklace on the counter.
"Hi baby, wanna hear my new poem?"
"No." I hissed at him.
"What's wrong Annie?"
I left the room. Why would I want to be near him? I went to my room. I took the glass shard back out and the word lies was put on my other leg. I sat, crossed legged on my bed, bleeding. I needed to get over Finnick. I ignored Finnick until District 9. Because District 9 gave me a prime opportunity for revenge. I walked off the train, already done up by Trilish. It was the grain district, so I was done in a brown pastel color. And I looked marvelous. Finnick was eager to speak to me after days of us not talking. But I only had one question for him in the Justice Building.
"What's his name?" I asked, pointing out the victor from the 68th games. He was handsome and looked very kind.
"Meje. Why?" Finnick asked, confused to why I was speaking to him after him trying to get me to speak to no avail. But I walked away, and up to Meje.
"Hello. I'm..."
"Annie Cresta!" he said happily. He shook my hand. We were close in age, he was 18 and it was only days until I would also be 18.
"Pleasure to meet you." I said, flirtingly pushing my hair behind my ear. He blushed.
"So tell me about you're gorgeous district."
"Well we harvest grain. We make the best bread in all of Panem." He told me. He seemed a bit boring, but he was just cute enough to get under Finnick's skin.
"I'd love to try some of it." I said, making a point to ignore Finnick. Meje smiled, and took me into a different room with many soft chairs and a stack of breads, cakes, and other pastries. What a delicious place to live!!! He handed me a glass of milk and made me a plate of cake and other delicacies. He watched eagerly, as I took a bite of the foods.
It was heavenly. It tasted amazing! The best food I'd ever eaten. And that was saying a lot after visiting the Capitol. He smiled.
"Is it good?" he asked.
"It is fantastic!!! You must have the best bakers here." I said, he blushed again.
"Actually that was my skill. I made everything you're eating. I'm so glad you like it." He said with a smile. How adorable was he? This was so sweet, on two different levels.
"Well you are an amazing baker!" I said happily. I scarfed down the food, and with each bite he looked happier.
"I also have a present for you, but that's not till you leave." He told me.
"Why did you get me a present?"
"Well your birthday is so soon! It was only necessary."
"That's so sweet! How did you know?"
"It's all over the news." He said. Raviah walked into the room, happy to see I wasn't with Finnick.
"Ready to go on?" Raviah asked. I nodded, and walked onto to stage with Finnick and Meje.
