And with that we were taken by hovercraft back to 4. I managed to walk down to the beach and sat down. I put my feet down in waves. Happy that no one was around, save for Finnick. He was standing closer to one of the coves though. Leaving me alone with my thoughts. The waves washed against my feet gently. The moon lighting up the ocean in a gorgeous way. Though Panem was horrible, District 4 was the most beautiful place in the world. I loved it so much. Because even when you were at the corner farthest away from the sea, you could still feel it in the air. Maybe I was biased because it's been my home my whole life.
Inside my mind though, I couldn't help but wonder if Amee got time to see the ocean before they hung her. Or if she was hung right where I was. They tend to set up public things, like the reaping, right at the ocean. This is where I was chosen for the Hunger Games. This is where I my life changed. Where I had tried to drown myself. This is probably where my baby sister had left the world. Where Finnick's father had gone. The most important place I had ever been, for good or worse. It would only be right if this is where my life ended. But as Finnick's footsteps grew closer I knew today wasn't the day. He sat down beside me and wrapped his arm around me. I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Someday...things will be different Annie. I promise."
And for some reason, I believed him.
We sat on the beach for what felt like forever, before we finally made our way home. I couldn't bear the thought of going to my house. All the memories trapped in it and the heartbreak of knowing it was the last place I saw Amee alive was too much. So we stayed at Finnick's. The place had been cleared of everything from the day we almost died. All except Constine's engagement ring. Finnick grabbed it and immediately threw it out the window. Pictures of her were in the house. He started destroying them.
"What in the world are you doing?" came a voice from upstairs. As the figure came towards us, it became clear Constine hadn't left. Finnick dropped a picture frame on the floor in his shock.
"Why are you here?" he asked.
"We're to be wed."
"No. We aren't." He responded angrily. She looked me up and down.
"Also you could pick a better mistress." She said, laughter in her voice as she stared at me. I bit my lip and stepped back. Finnick grabbed my hand.
"Constine, maybe you're just not seeing whats clearly happened. I NEVER loved you. I love Annie. I tried to kill myself so I could be with Annie and away from YOU." He said through gritted teeth.
"You don't need to lie to make Miss Crazy feel better." She said. I forced Finnick's hand off mine and went right up to her.
"Miss Crazy?" I repeated.
"Yes. The unstable girl who won on accident." She said in a mocking tone. I looked to my left and licked my lips. I nodded as I turned back to her.
"I will be the first to admit I'm unstable. But I won because I'm the best."
"Prove it."
And with that I knocked out Finnick's ex fiancé with a single punch. Her nose was gushing blood as she fell to the floor.
"Don't mess with crazy." I told her limp form as I gave a good kick to her ribs. Finnick pulled me back.
"What the hell Annie?"
"I'm unstable Finnick. I can't help it." I said as he looked down at her. A smile flitted across his lips for a moment.
"Well...I guess it would've been in bad taste if I hit her. It's wrong to hit girls."
