Charred Feelings

Chapter 9: Red Horizon

I sat in the living room waiting for Kira to come home. She never did. Weeks passed and I soon push out Mike from my memories. Aspen came everyday and we went out to put up missing posters.

He came everyday rain or shine.

I slowly started to get closer to him. But as I got closer I slowly realized that there was a huge chance that Kira and Her baby would never come back. At night I would cry my heart out.

The house got really quiet. I quit temporarily at the hospital.

I got up from the couch when there was knocking at the door.

My heart froze when I looked through the window. It was Mike. He was in his Green uniform.

I stood there. He knocked again and I opened up the door.

I open my mouth but he barges past me.

I close the door behind him. I get ready to yell at him but he turns around and looks at me.

I almost bump into him.

"Get out.", I say through gritted teeth.

I look down towards my feet. He uses his hand to lift my chin upwards. I turned but he held me in place. I stared at his dark eyes. I swallow. His features are all proportional. I held my stare.

"Lyra, listen. I won't repeat this.,"He looks out the window and back at me." Kira is dead. She was killed by Andrew before the murder of his mother. Her body was found floating in the river south of her,"He pauses," the government officials made him kill his mother as punishment for making them have a bad reputation. My task was to kill him. The pill then erased their existence in every one's mind. They are forgotten."

My heart beats fast. My sister was dead. Her baby and her.

" I know that Andrew is innocent.", I whispered quietly.

I fall out of his arms and I slump to the floor. He hunches by me.

Instead of crying there is only grief. I don't cry. At all.

I look up at him. Anger built up in me. "Why did you tell me that?," I hold back an insult when I remember his family's passing.

He understood. The government knew everything. They even knew that Andrew raped Kira. It wasn't a warning from the government.

My heart hurts as I think of Kira.

Mike knew everything that happened. He got all the information I got.

I stare up at him.

I could see his eyes twinkle a bit. His lips twitched a little.

Is he an ally? I think of Kira. She was an ally. She was the world to me. I lost her in such an short amount of time.

My nose itches and the tears come. I sat there crying and sobbing. Mike sat besides me and pats my back.

When I finally stopped to hiccups he whispers something in my ear. Very faint but I knew what he said.

"This is how cruel the government is. I beg of you. Stay here and never go see that wall again."

I look as he walks out of the door, hesitating a bit before disappearing.

Mike Ella. The guy that had alot more secrets than I can count.
