~Rachel's POV~

Zayn had been in the kitchen for the past hour with my mom and I could hear faint voices every once in a while. I wonder what they were talking about. Not to sound stuck-up, but I had a feeling it was me. The voices stopped, right as the doorbell rang.

No one else was around, either getting ready or getting the table ready, so I pull myself from off the couch and go to the door. The doorbell rings again and I turn the handle, trying to remember who else was supposed to come today, but it didn't take long.

"Louis!" I say excitedly, as he wrapped his arms around me. He may be my ex, but he was a great friend. It sounds weird, I know, being friends with your ex, but we didn't talk much. "So great to see you again! How's college?"

"It's treating me quite nicely, actually. But it's great to see you too, Rachel," He pulls away from our quick hug, his eyes bright and happy.

"What happened, Louis Tomlinson?" I ask dramatically.

"I met this girl. Her name's Harris and I could never be so happy." He told me, his eyes meeting mine skeptically. But I had no feelings towards Louis anymore, I was quite happy for him actually.

"Congrats, Louis. That's awesome," I say.

"How's Zayn?" He asks, his grey/blue eyes returning to their usual brightness. I can feel my cheeks heat up again. Alayna didn't tell him? This was about to turn awkward. I remember him telling Zayn he'd break a bone if he did anything to hurt me, but I couldn't tell if he was being serious or not. And by the look in his eye at the sight of my sheepishness, he was being pretty serious.

"He's right here and he's fine." I hear Zayn's voice say from behind me, with a cold tone. Awesome. Zayn still had a grudge on Louis.

"What happened?" Louis demanded, looking back to me. He noticed Zayn's expression too. Zayn continues to stare at me, but I don't look at him. I wanted this to be happy. Not some rivalry between everyone and Zayn.

"I... Uh... I ch-" Zayn started to explain the story, but I had to cut him off.

"We can talk later, Louis. Can we just let this be happy while it can be?" I ask, glancing in between the two of them. I didn't want Zayn to explain the story for what must've been countless times. I frankly didn't want to either.

"Sure. If Zayn can let it be," Louis says, continuing to look at Zayn. He knew something was up. I was surprised Alayna didn't tell him. As Louis starts to walk towards the kitchen, he leans in towards me, laying a gentle hand on my shoulder. "Tell me later. Ok, Rachel?" He whispers to which I nod in response.

"Thanks... uh... for doing that," Zayn says. I finally look at him since Louis made his grudging and awkward entrance. I shake my head, distressed at what this "vacation" was turning out to be. Maybe I shouldn't have come. "I'm sorry."

"Save it, Zayn," I say, before walking down the hallway to find Gaby. My parents didn't really have that big of a house, so Gaby and I split a room. There was only one bed, so she would lay facing the end of the bed and I would lay facing the headboard. Of course, Alayna and Niall would be staying here while we were, so Alayna stayed in here with us and slept on a cot, while Niall slept on a pull-out bed built into the couch.

I hear the blow dryer sound from the bathroom and walk in, to which Alayna was applying make-up and Gaby was putting the final touches on her hair. They both looked quite stunning for my family's traditional Christmas Eve dinner. Alayna was wearing deep green dress with red accessories for the Christmas feel, while Gaby wore a baby blue dress with the "smoky" make up look.
