I fought through the massive crowd and got to the check out desk. I requested a room, and paid for it. The girl behind the desk smiled at me and handed me a piece of paper.

Her phone number. I took it and stuffed it in my pocket. I'll be throwing it in the garbage later. I appreciate that she thinks I'm attractive and everything, but I don't need her number.

"Hold on," the girl said as she walked into the back room to get a key to my room.

I sighed as I stood at the desk and waited. I heard someone checking out of the hotel to the right of me and looked at the person.

I did a double take when I saw the person's face.

Elena. She was here.

Chapter 6...Halfway Gone

I wanted to say something, but I knew I couldn't. I stared at her for a little longer; waiting for her to look up and see me. But it occurred to me that she knew I was there, she just didn't want to acknowledge it in front of me.

I was okay with that. Right?

Yeah, I'm perfectly fine with that. You know, aside from the acute and heart shredding pain I was feeling because I was absolutely positive that she hated my guts. And hey, Alex Carter is okay with that.

Elena finished filling out the paper she had and turned to leave. I turned to the lady at the counter as she was returning from the back room. I told her that I didn't need the room anymore, and she could keep the money. She gratefully smiled at me and motioned for me to call her some time. I nodded slightly.

I heard the ring of the door of the hotel being closed. The hotel lady once again thanked me, and I walked back to the door. I was literally fighting off the hoards of girls that were attacking me.

I never realized how hard it would be to like someone and try to conceal it from the world.

But I don't like anyone. Yeah. That's true.

I pushed through the door and a fresh gust of air washed over me. I love California. The sun was shining high in the sky and the palm trees were gently swaying.

Not a cloud in sight. Not a cloud in sight, my friend.

My fan girls lingered in the hotel instead of coming outside, which was a big surprise to me. I caught site of Elena before she turned and was walking along the side of the building. I casually followed her, hastening my pace.

I heard a shrill scream, definitely not Elena's, and some nearby girl practically inform the whole world, "Is that Alex Carter?"
