Emma woke up because of a sound at the door. She couldn't really assign it, the only thing she knew was that it was early in the morning and her brain wasn't working like it should work yet.

The last night had been a great night. Killian had asked her out, and of course she had accepted. Killian, always being a gentleman, insisted on being the one to plan the date, even if Emma had tried to convince him that she also knew how to plan a date. At nine on the bottom, he had stood in front of the door, looking even more handsome as normally.

"You look stunning Swan." he had said, repeating the words he had said on their first date. Emma, like always when he addressed compliments to her, blushed deeply. She was just wearing a light blue dress, but even if she would have worn an ugly sweater and sweatpants he would have told her how beautiful she was.

The evening had been really great. Killian had taken her out to a small restaurant near the docks. During all her time in Storybrooke she hadn't realised that there existed a restaurant there. But the food was delicious and they had a lot of fun with talking. After dinner they decided to have a walk at the docks. His arm was wrapped around her waist, holding her close while they had been walking. And they had talked about a lot of things. They had shared stories with each other they hadn't shared with anyone for a long time. But both of them knew that they could trust the other and that there was no need to build up a wall against each other if they were together.

Yes, Emma had enjoyed the evening to the fullest. Their little walk had turned out to be a longer one, so they returned far after midnight. Both of them had been very tired, so they literally fell into bed after having changed into their pajamas.

Another loud knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. It seemed that now Killian had woken up too, because he turned around and grunted something about "tiredness".

"Emmaaaa" suddenly a voice sounded. But that voice wasn't the one of an adult. No, it was the voice of a little kid that was standing right in front of the door, now knocking constantly.

Emma moaned loudly. She remembered a conversation she had had with her father a few days ago...

"...so I wanna take your mum for a trip. It will be just for one day, but we are going to leave early in the morning. You're sure it's okay for you to take care of Neal?" David had asked her in the evening while they were drinking a hot coca.

"Mhm yes of course. It won't be that difficult to take care of an almost three-year old boy." she had said convinced.

Well, surely it would be much easier if she had slept a little longer that night. She had totally forgotten that it was this morning where she had to take care of her little brother. If she would have remembered it, they may have returned home earlier.

"Emmaaaaww" The little boy was still standing in front of the door, now throbbing against it.

"I'm coming Neal." Emma said, her voice still rough, while Killian pressed his right hand on his ear and grunted something unintelligible. The blonde woman stood up slowly, rubbing her eyes while she was walking to the door.

As she opened it, Neal was standing in front of it, holding his teddy in his arms. "Emmaa!" the little boy exclaimed as he saw his big sister and hugged her, or rather her legs.

"Hey little boy." Emma said, kneeling down next to the little Neal and hugging him back.

"I don't wanna be alone, mummy and daddy are gone. Can I stay wif you?" Emma smiled. Every time he looked at her puppy-eyed, his small beady eyes full of hope, every time these little hands were holding her shirt, not wanting her to leave, every time she saw him she couldn't help but smile. Even if she was in a bad mood or incredibly tired he always made her smile.
