Hitomi smiled as the academy class was over. She waved goodbye to her sensei and a couple of her classmates politely. Outside she was met with Ibiki, who waited against the academy tree with his arms crossed, scaring the other academy students. Hitomi happily walked up to him with a smile.
"Hey Ibiki-san. You don't usually come here, what's up, un?" She asked but Ibiki didn't smirk or even crack a smile. He just stood there all silent and brooding like.
"We're going to the Hokage's." He stated and started walking.
Hitomi's heart froze in her chest and she followed Ibiki cautiously. When they entered the Hokage's office, Hitomi wasn't met with the normal smile the Hokage gave her either. This made her heart drop. The Hokage looked up at her with a very serious look.
"Hitomi were you saved by Kakashi on the mission four years ago? Or we're you taken?" He asked.
Hitomi's eyes widened. They found out? How did it happen? She was so careful. Maybe her family are out of hiding again so they saw the resemblance between her and her father. At least that meant her family was actually live which relieved the growing doubts inside her mind about the Akatsuki's living status. Hitomi opened her mouth, "I..." she trailed off, at a loss for words.
The Hokage sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He already knew the truth from her response. The Hokage looked at Ibiki who looked stoic and serious on the outside but the Hokage knew better. Ibiki was hurt on the inside, just like any human being would after they felt like they were lied to and betrayed. He cared about Hitomi more than anything, it was the most he cared about someone since his little brother Idate died.
Hitomi couldn't bring herself to look at Ibiki. She knew she hurt him, she knew she shouldn't have let herself care about anyone but she did. Hitomi looked up at the Hokage solemnly, "How did you find out, un?" She asked.
"When we found the bodies last year, we had taken reports. Now that we have your medical records we found the similarities between you and the Akatsuki member Deidara." The Hokage answered truthfully.
Hitomi's head snapped up, "Bodies?" She asked.
The Hokage nodded, "Yes." He answered.
Hitomi's eyes began to water and the tears spilt over. She fell to her knees and hands, looking at the crowd as the wet liquid fell to the ground. "Y-You mean they were dead... this whole time, un..." she muttered with shocked wide eyes.
The Hokage didn't even have to answer. She closed her eyes and cried for the first time in a long time. "All this time... a false hope of my family actually being alive, The anxiety I felt as I realized I love being here, The worry that I would hurt all the people I cared about if I chose between my family or here? All of that, was for nothing?!" She talked to herself, her voice gradually rising.
Ibiki and the Hokage watched with wide eyes and Hitomi suddenly brung her fist up and punched a hole through the floor. "Fuck!" She screamed, more tears spilling through. She began to put more holes through the floor. "Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" She screamed over and over. Her fist turned red and purple with blood and bruises as she continued to punch the floor.
The Hokage's eyes widened further, "Ibiki stop her." He ordered.
Instantly Ibiki was the by Hitomi's side grabbing her arms and holding her back. Instinctively she turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck, crying her heart out. Everything was crashing down on her again, her family is actually dead and the family she may have found here will never trust her again. She was broken hearted all over again.
