The next morning wasn't as eventful as the ones before. This was really just another usual morning. But still, I couldn't help but feel amazement at the view that lied outside my window.
It was pretty obvious the winter was here to stay. The snow blanket got thicker every day, and I couldn't have been happier. I loved winter. The seeing the snow falling has always been my favorite way of spending time. And the best part was that it was cold. So cold. Most people hate cold. But I love it. It just gives me this feeling. Like, if our human bodies can take the cold, maybe there is some kind of magic out there. And with the things that happened lately, may I add, in the winter, I believe in magic so much more than I used to.
It took me a little longer than usual to get ready, because I kept glancing outside. I don't know what I wanted to see. Maybe just someone who could tell me what was happening. I'm not going to lie, I was still really confused about what has happened this weekend. Wouldn't you be? I mean, I can grant wishes. I'm like a genie.
When I was finally done, I went downstairs, only to notice my parents weren't there, but instead, a note from them:
"Darling, sorry we aren't here. We have some business to take care of, I hope it's okay. Love, Mom & Dad."
Okay, I was expecting them to get bag to work, but not this soon. Actually, I expected that. But still. I loved them being around. Of course, they were still going to be home. Just not that much. And they'll get a holiday on Christmas Eve, until the end of the year. So it was okay.
I looked for something to take with me at school, but because I couldn't find anything, I just went without food. Goodness.
I was on my way to school, and I just realized I had gotten used with one of the boys coming with me. It was pretty boring without anyone beside me. Just as I was about to call Addison, so I had who to talk to, I felt someone wrap their hands around my shoulders. At first, I thought it was Dylan, but as I turned to look, I almost screeched. It was Sam.
Sam was one of my old best friends. He was really nice when we were little. But in school, he started to change, and things went wrong, and he became a douche bag. Hooray! He still tried to sit with me sometimes, but my other friends couldn't really stand him either, so we ignored him. Plus, he was scary. He was that kind of boy that no girl likes, because they are just gross, and so self-obsessed. We all know that guy, right?
I got away from him, as fast as I could, but he just laughed.
"Ha, good, old Ember! I forgot you always act like this around boys. You are such a prude!" he exclaimed.
He sounded drunk. I didn't like it. And I think you understand why I don't hang out with him anymore. Oh, and excuse me for having standards! Jerk!
"Not talking to me, December?" he whispered, trying to sound intimidating, but the hiccup at the end blew his facade off.
"I would prefer not to waste my voice, you know?" I responded, smiling sweetly at him.
"Oh, playing hard to get, I see!" he said, and I almost burst out laughing.
Playing hard to get for him? Please! No one would ever play hard to get for him!
"Don't get your hopes up, Sam! Actually, I really don't want to waste my voice," I explained to him, like he was a small child.
That's when he grabbed my arm, and pulled me toward him.
"Listen here, Ember. I know you want me, so you can just forget this act. Okay? And, by the way, I'm going to get you!" he warned, leaning in, like he wanted to kiss me.
I tried to back away, but he wouldn't release me. I tried to scream, but he put his hand over my mouth.
"Stop it. You know you want it, okay?" he stated.
No, I didn't! That's why I didn't do it! But that didn't stop him. He got closer, if it was even possible, and tried to kiss me. But before his oh-so-gross lips could even touch mine, he was ripped off of me. Thank Pizza! I would've died if he actually kissed me. I wasn't going to give away my first kiss just like this. Like, no way! Oh, wait. Who stopped Sam? I turned around to see Dylan. Angry. With his fist in the air. Looking like he was about to hit Sam. I hurried towards them. I didn't like the jerk either, but I hated violence even more than I hated Sam. So yeah. I took Dylan and made him step back, leaving Sam there, alone. Dylan almost ran back, but I took his hand in mine, and pulled him down the street.
"December! Let me take care of this!" he growled.
Oops, he used my full name! That's bad!
"Dylan, calm down! It was nothing. Really. I mean, thank you for saving me, but let it go. Don't ruin your hands for me." I joked.
"I'd ruin everything for you," I heard him mumble, but I'm pretty sure I heard him wrong. Well, whatever. I let go of his hand when I thought we were far enough, and after that we walked in silence to school.
At school, nothing new happened. Same old. Catherine was upset over another fight with Ray, Sophia was her usual self, Addison was studying and the boys were just goofing around.
After school hours had ended, I hurried home, where I got changed, did my homework, and then started reading a book. Call me whatever you want, I just really love to read.
I was interrupted when a family reunion started to take place in my room. First, my parents, then Jane, Dave and Ashley. That was weird. I just smiled and waved, like any normal person, but on the inside, I was freaking out.
"Ember, we have to tell you something," my mother started.
Don't freak out! Don't freak out! Don't freak out!
My mother was about to continue, when Ashley shouted:
"We're mving in next door! How about that?"
I was shocked. but the good kind of shock. So, I hugged them all, and then we celebrated. Nothing really festive. Just a pizza and a movie. Family night. After they went back to their hotel, I realized that maybe, just maybe, this was somehow related to my wish. I had to ask my mother how did this happen. I went in the kitchen, and asked her. Her response was:
"Well, Dave's boss called him and told him he can move here, because a new company was going to be founded here, and he gets to be the big boss, or something. Pretty cool, right?"
She was ready to keep on rambling on, when I stopped her to ask her a question.
"When did his boss call?"
"This part is really awesome! He called 5 minutes after midnight. You know, with the different timezones, and stuff."
After that, I just sat there, dumbfounded. Wow. Shortly after, I went to bed, and remembered one of my childhood wishes. A wish that everyone had at elast once. I lied on my bed, ready to see if this worked.
I wish I could fly.
