Chapter 6: Lucy, not cool
The scene isn't changing, which is good I suppose, no more random and weird crap flying out at us, which is even better. In fact, this place, is, is...tame? What? I looked around and asked "What's all this? It's less random than the thing's we've seen."
"Look up," said Lucy. I looked up, blinked, tilted my head looked at Lawrence to know I wasn't the only one seeing this, and said "Heilige Scheisse!"
"Mind your German," said Lucy. Xiang just looked at me and said "Wait, you speak German?"
"Doch," I replied. Lucy looked at him and said "The von isn't there for show good sir, and aren't you seeing this?"
"A flying narwhal sword fighting an Archangel, yeah I saw that,"
"No not the narwhal! The other one!"
"Oh! Oh...oh..."
"Dude, save that when the time is right!" said Lawrence. Lucy looked at him for a while, walked up to him, and punched him in the shoulder. Lawrence shook from the impact, but he just shrugged it off, "I'm dead, and I'll make all the jokes I want,"
"This is why I rather hang out with Xiang," said Lucy with her arms folded. Xiang shook his head and says "Dude, no wonder neither of them is your girl yet,"
"Actually he hangs with Angie a lot, that explains something there. I guess it must have rubbed off," said Lucy as she looked at me. It's a long story, it was back when Lawrence was still alive and he was part of Team Awry, he left because, he was signed off as decommissioned, so now he works here, I'll explain why some other time.
Anyways, the scene wasn't going away, and if anyone brought a camera and filmed the sky right now, the video would either go viral on the Internet, or it would be banned in several regions and countries all over the world. I think it would be a million hits, then it gets banned.
Lucy looked around and said "This scene looks tame enough, I'm going to channel again, hold of anything that pops out and tries to kill me,"
That moment, Lawrence's arms caught fire, he then said "You can count on me!"
Oh Lawrence, she'll never know. Xiang looked at Lawrence and shook his head as he drew his sword. Oh I never had the chance to describe it, it looks a bit like a scimitar, but it's not as curvy as one, and it's made of bronze. He says it's the Chinese version of a broadsword, so that's the best way to describe it I guess, anyways back to the topic.
Lucy closed her eyes and began to channel the spell, her hands glowing red. As soon as that happened, the scene changed to a desert. We were surrounded by what seems to be Arabs? They were covered head to toe in cloth and they were holding scimitars, so they could be anything, they looked pissed.
One of them hissed at us and unmasked his 'mouth', a swarm locusts came flooding out of the void, but were burned into useless husks by Lawrence's fire, along with that guy that was spitting them. I looked at my opponent, it hissed at me and lunged with it's sword, I spun, avoiding the blade and grabbing a dagger out of my cloak, jamming it deep into the thing's neck as it faltered. It snarled but didn't stop though, I drew another one and jammed it up the back of it's skull, it fell down. 'Dead'. I didn't know if it could hurt me, but it seemed pretty real, so I'm not taking any chances. I turned around to see Xiang fighting two of them, so I flung a trench knife at one of them, the sharp tip burying itself into the eye of one.
It fell over, and for the first time ever I saw Xiang use the sharp part of his blade. He turned around to fight the other one and then, we're back in the corridor. Lucy opened her eyes and said "Well, that was, faster than I've expected it to be,"
"We had to fight off Arabs you know,"said Lawrence. Lucy raised her eyebrow and said "Arabs? Really? Or was it Angie's interpretation of the Al'akir Warriors from the Middle Eastern side?"
Yeah, I should explain. I have been to the Middle Eastern side of Burgeon Isle before, every time I saw those guys warped in cloth, it creeped me out. I half expected them to spit out locusts or something. Then again, I was really young that time, didn't expect the illusion to be based on a childhood memory. The guy must have ran outta ideas or something. Lucy looked over to Xiang and said "Xiang, bend down a little bit for me, there's something I need to do,"
"Err, is something wrong?" asked Xiang and he bent down. Lucy did not respond and Lark! She's biting his neck! Xiang's face turned from confusion to disbelief, "Hey! Hey! Get off!"
Lucy, once she got her fill of ectoplasm, peeled off, her mouth still dripping in that goo and said "Well, if I talked more I probably would have lost more water, let me tell you something about magic here, you use mana, mana regenerates, but when you use too much mana you'll start dehydrating, that's why they say, magic will burn you, so, I'm sorry I didn't explain more, and damn, that tasted good, like Mountain Dew."
"Mountain Dew. You drink my blood-"
"Ectoplasm,"
"I don't care! That was not cool! Okay, I get that it was an emergency, but, why me? Why not Lawrence?"
"Cause, Lawrence doesn't bleed,"
Lawrence looked at me as Lucy said that. I felt my face turn hot, long story, I don't want to recap, but err his heart doesn't pump anymore, Xiang's heart still does, and don't ask me how that works, I don't know. Death is a funny little thing, despite the fact that the Spirit of Death is portrayed as a muscular man with bat-wings and is the patron of all known ghosts and what not. Anyways, illusion gone, that's one problem taken care of, but I think Lucy's mana problem gave us another problem. Xiang was covering his bite wound with a hand and it's still gushing with ectoplasm. He drifted further away from Lucy and towards me, his face still had those wild wide eyes, never blinking, starting at Lucy with disbelief. I looked at Lucy and said "Dude! Not cool! Not. Cool, Look at him now! He'll never like you now!"
Oh. Shoot me in the ankle with a stone arrow from a dragonslayer bow, that slipped. Lucy shot a glare at me, I immediately covered my mouth, and the two ghosts shot me a weird look, Xiang with the disbelief and Lawrence, well, he looked worst. I feel like Fox now when he's been caught, this cornered up feeling is horrible! Lucy was the first to speak, "Why did you say that?!"
"I-I-It just sli-"I stammered, but she cut me off saying, "Just slipped, just slipped, Angie!"
"Wait, Lucy you what, when? Why?" Xiang started, but Lawrence butted in and said "Alright you three, break it up! Lucy, Angie didn't mean it, Xiang, she bit you because she felt like she could trust you to not freak out and you disappointed her, like any normal guy would, and Lucy, I-erm-I-ugh-That was't cool, what you did, but I understand that you had no choice. The point is that it's not our faults, remember why this whole thing started, blame that spectre we saw, he caused this, this might probably not be what he wanted, but us just being here is stalling enough time for him to wreak more havoc, and he might have already been done with the kitchen by now, so all of you, calm down, no one is at fault here,"
"I get it! I get it! I just have one question, why do you like me?" asked Xiang. Lucy stood straighter, she then wilted and said, "I'll explain why, remember that time during training?"
"Yeah? When that other hellhound showed up and we were stuck in the armory?" Lawrence shudders at the memory.
I had no idea what happened during that time, but seeing that they've spent 8 hours trapped in there, something must have happened, Lucy didn't explain, and now I'm listening. I'll cut it out from here, I've done enough damage.
