"Okay, ummm.... where are you from?" Althea asked me.
We had finished studying, well almost as soon as we started but the effort counts to, right? Anyway, we sat crossed legged opposite eachother on her bed, laying 20 questions. Every once in a while Sam or Dean would 'casually' walk by and sneak a peak at us through her cracked door but I tried to pay them as little attention as possible.
"Mullingar, Ireland." I answered. "What about you? You don't sound like your from here."
"No actually your right, I'm from california."
"How did you end up in London?"
Her mood instantly shifted as though my question brought back bad memories. Her eyes left mine and found themselves on the striped pattern of the blanket beneathe us. Her breath became shallow, making me wonder of she was scared?
"Hey," I lifted my hand to her chin and brought those gorgeous ocean green orbs back up to meet my ice blue ones. "Are you okay?"
She took a deep breath before anwering. "Y-yeah, yeah I'm fine- do you uh want some popcorn or something?"
"S-sure, I guess-"
"Great."
She barley let me finish speaking before I was left alone in her room. I couldn't help but start to wonder.
'Did I do something wrong?'
'Coarse you didn't do anything wrong you big dummy! She obviously has something that happened in the passed."
Two voices bickered in my head until Dean appeared at the doorway again, this time not just for a walk by spy investigation.
I still felt a bit intimmidated by him, and Sam, but mostly him.
"Hey, where ah where'd Althea go?" He asked, his eyes shifting around the room almost nervously. Like he wasn't supposed to be in here and he knew it.
"I think she went to go get popcorn...." I shifted uncomfortably when my words stopped his gaze from flickering around the room and instead focused directley on me.
His feet carried him towards me. He settled on the corner of the bed, leaning slightly on his hand for support.
Insticntivley, I scooted back slightly.
"Look I'm not going to hurt you, I just want t know what you are really here for." His stare was accusing as he anylized my face.
"I-I'm just here to study." I stuttered, making it seem more like a lie than the truth.
"Thats all?"
"Yeah- yes, yes thats all I swear." I raised my hands up, putting myself on the defensive side because I really didn't to see what would happen if I was on offense. Though unfortunatley, sometimes my body doesn't process the information my mind is telling it fast enough.
"Who are you to her anyway?"
I didnt mean for that to come out so snobby but, like I said I have to work on controlling what my mouth is doing\telling people.
"I'm her legal gardian\brother." His answer was relativley calm given the way I worded my question.
"Oh, okay." I didn't really know what to say after that so for like the 3rd time in the last half in hour I was placed in the awkwardest silences I have ever experienced. The weird part was that it shouldn't even be that awkward it just was.
"Okay so- Dean!" Altheas voice cut through the silence like a knife.
Dean's eyes lifted from my figure to Althea's, who was standing in the doorway with a bowl of popcorn.
"What?" He asked innocetly.
"What are you doing?" Althea raised an eyebrow, stepping into the room and approaching Dean slowly. Like she trying to intimidate him, which seemed to work.
"Just ya know hangin out with my bud Niall."
"Out."
"Yep, okay." Dean stood quickly, speeding towards the door.
~*~
Its been two weeks since me and Althea have started hanging out and it has been fantastic. Shes amazingly funny, smart and mysterious, which I find intrigueging. She never talks about her past and whenever I ask about it she clams up and changes the subject.
"So, what you wanna do after school? I was thinking we could go back to my place, I rented Mamma. Its supposed to be super freaky." Althea suggested. We were both heading to our last classes of the day which happened to be right next to eachother.
"Yeah, sounds good to me. We can pic-"
"Althea! Hey Althea wait up!" A voice cut into our conversation, followed by quick footsteps approaching from behind.
Althea crursed under her breath as she froze and turned around, looking severley irretated. I followed her lead, my eyes landing on a short, thin haired guy with glasses and a few hairs sticking out from his chin.
"Salvadore, hi." Althea grumbled, trying to be polite but I could tell she hated this kid.
"Hey, Althea. Haven't seen you around lately. Where you been dissappearing to?"
"I got stuff to do. My brothers just got back in town." Her words were rushed like she was trying to drop the hint for him to go away.
"Right, right. Well do you want to maybe hang out ater class then? We could like catch a movie or something." He appeared a tad nervous though he was smiling widley.
"Uh, sorry Salvadore but I got plans. I'm hangin out with Niall." She pointed to me and Salvadore's eyes landed on me. Taking in my presence for the first time.
"Oh okay. Maybe some other time?" He asked hopefully.
"Look Salvadore, your a cool dude and all but I dont like you like that. Sorry." Althea then turned and continued on her way to class. Leavng her words lingering in the air as well as me. Me and Salvadore stood in silence which quickly shifted over to the awkward side when he started to glare at me with an unreasonable amount of hatred.
After about 2 minutes I had had enough and quickly followed in Althea's footsteps. quickly making my way to class. But before I was out of earshot, I heard Salvadore wisper something that didn't sound like english.
I would later find out what it was and what it meant but thats for later.
