May's POV
After Zoe explained her dream, I began thinking that our dreams weren't a coincidence: they meant something. We drive along the road for about an hour or two, before finally reaching London.
At this point, Zoe and I had switched back so that she was driving. I stare out the window at what would have been the bustling city of London, turned to rubble and ash. Bodies line the streets like leaves, but I have become numb to the sight and stench of them. I tell Garrett to play with Nala to distract him from the nightmarish scene, but even he has become somewhat used to it.
I spend this time pondering our dreams: why has it only happened to Sean, Zoe and Me? Surely it has some specifics...what makes us different?
As we drive along the streets, Alfie stops the car and gets out, gesturing for us to follow him.
I open the door, and walk back to grab Garrett and Nala. Resting him on the ground, he takes my hand and I hand Nala's leash to Poppy, as she and Sean were soon to follow our actions. We walk over the rubble that had been in our way and make our way down a long street. Alfie and Sean take the lead, followed by the four (five if you count Nala) of us.
We seem to walk for ages, but I don't dare complain. I mean, they saved us.
As we walk, I feel as if I am being watched. I looks sideways at Zoe and realize she is looking around herself: she must feel the same way. I cautiously look backwards and see what I was looking for.
Two men...one very tall, the other average height, stand outside a building, bandanas covering their faces.
I freeze.
Zoe looks back at me and sees what I see.
"Alfie, Sean" she says, panic in her voice.
The boys turn around and look at the men standing a few hundred yards away.
"Stay back" Alfie warns us. We step aside and let them take the lead.
The two men put their guns and weapons up in the air as if in surrender and begin to walk towards us. One of them breaks into a run and is shouting something. My heart rate quickens and I back away slightly, now holding Garrett in my arms.
The second man begins to break into a run, chasing after the average size one.
Zoe steps forward slightly and gives Alfie a puzzled look.
Poppy leans over to me, whispering in my ear
"Is it-"
"Joe! Caspar!" Zoe screams, running towards them. At this point, they had taken the bandanas off and exposed their faces. A grin spread across Joe's face as he ran to his sister.
"But what if-" Poppy begins.
I know what she's thinking.
Instinctively, I hand her Garrett and jump in front of Zoe protectively. She looks at me with anger and confusion.
"No chances" I say looking her in the eyes. "I don't think they are Shriekers, but I don't want to make that mistake again." I say running out towards them.
I race until I'm about 25 yards away and stop, placing my hand on my knife in case they are...they aren't alive. Joe and Caspar slow their pace down and walk towards me.
"Who are you?" Caspar questions.
"May..." I state blankly.
"Joe. Caspar. Are you okay guys?" I ask, unsure of how to approach them. They now stand 10 yards away.
"May we aren't shriekers, I swear to you" Joe says looking me in the eyes.
(It doesn't help that he's my celebrity crush so...)"Prove it" I say, still not wanting to make a mistake again.
Joe walks up to me and opens his eyes wide.
"See? Clear." He says. It's true, he hasn't been turned. I let out a sigh or relief.
"Is Zoe okay? And Alfie?" Caspar, who has now caught up to Joe asks.
"Yeah we're okay. We have Poppy and Sean too-"
"What about Mark?" Caspar asks.
"Yeah we saw him a few hours ago, did you find him yet?" Joe adds.I stand there, baffled.
"Mark died...yesterday..." I say, unsure of how to state it.
"But he was here, not two hours ago" Caspar starts.
"He asked us if we had found Zo-" Joe is cut off by a scream heard down the street. We all turn to see not one, but hundreds of shriekers running down the street.
Right for us.
"Run!" I scream to both my group and the boys.
