"We could climb over it

"We could climb over it..." Teddy suggested, his fingers curled in the diamonds of the chain link fence.

We had all arrived at a junkyard after a long while of walking- specifically Milo Pressman's- as Gordie had told us that it had a safe well for water.

Milo Pressman had a dog named Chopper that supposedly had been trained to sick balls, though I'm not sure that's true.

Chris thought for a moment. "Alright."

Immediately, the other boys scaled the fence, sticking each foot in another slot until they jumped down from the top. A drum of thuds in front of me finished it.

I wanted to go over, so bad, but...

"How tall is that fence?" I asked, squinting at the sun.

"Annie, don't tell me..." Teddy rolled his eyes. "Just climb over!"

"Not if it's too high!" I yelled at him. "I'm not going if it's too high... no, no, no."

"Yes, you are!" Teddy reached his hand at me through the fence, making the other boys laugh.

"I really don't think that's gonna work, Teddy." Chris said, pulling him off the fence by the neck of his shirt.

"She's being a pussy!" Teddy whined, Chris rolling his eyes in response. I huffed at him from the other side, then he continued. "And she's slowing-"

"-This look like an entrance suitable for you?" Gordie said calmly. He was bent over, holding a patch of the fence out to make a nice sized hole for me to slide through.

I stuck my nose up at the other boys. "Thank you, kind sir. These imbeciles couldn't have thought of a better solution in their dreams!"

The boys chuckled at my response, then I crawled through the fence opening. It was a very tight fit, though I'm pretty petite- I had a close encounter with some poison oak, but the only thing on me was some dirt on my back.

I eventually got back up on my feet, and coughed a bit from the dust as I brushed it off of me in mini clouds. I jogged after Teddy and Vern, leaving Chris and Gordie behind to stare after the rest of us.

"Who's going first?" I panted, looking between Vern and Teddy in question.

"I guess I'll go, then." Teddy said as he stuck his canteen under the spout and started to work the handle.

I zoned out at the sequence of it, up and down, up and down, up and down.

Suddenly, I earned some heavy breaths in my ear and an arm around my neck.

"Teddy! Save some for Vern. He's gonna need more." Chris said, and tightened his arm around me.

Vern thought for a moment, looking down at his feet, and then back up again at Chris.
