~Flashback 2003 (This takes place after the prologue) ~ Cheri's grip on the metal poll tightened as the ambulance lurched forward. She quickly glanced over at her little child on the gurney. Hailee went unconscious again and her eyes rolled back. She quickly looked away. Seeing the stained blood on her daughter's face and the roughness of the ambulance made her feel nauseous. She hoped they would get to the hospital soon. Not just because she didn't want to throw up, but for her daughter's sake. -In the hospital- It was so quiet, you could practically heard a pencil drop. Pete and Cheri were waiting in Doctor Mathews' office. Though they weren't speaking, both parents knew that this was the place that everyone talks about when you receive bad news about your child or family member. Dr. Mathews finished up with looking at Hailee's test results and medical info. He cleared his throat to get the couple's attention.
"So the medicine trial that we put Hailee on recently had a horrific effect on little Hailee. The only reason she was fine in the hospital was because we had some machines that prevented the effect. She did not have the machines at home and that is why she almost died today. She is now stable but her heart is getting worse. If we can't find a cure soon enough, we will have to pull the plug or she will die a horrible and painful death. We are trying to do everything we can. But you are aware that this is a rare disease with no known cure other than a transplant. She has moved up on the transplant list though. She is in the top 5. But transplants are very unlikely and it is hard to find a new heart that would work for her. I will send out a nurse to come get you guys once Hailee wakes."
Pete and Cheri said 'thank you' to Dr. Mathews and walked out of the office. Once the door closed, that's when the tears started. ~Flashback over~
Back to the concert: The backup dancers for Hailee gracefully made their way onto the lighted stage. Roars and screams arise from the audience. "Hailee! Hailee! Hailee" they excitedly cheer. Hailee took a sneak peak at the audience. The light up wrist bands they were given were swaying in the air. When Hailee's cue came up, she got on stage and got right into the dance number.
Out of all the bright lights and posters, Chloe pacing in the crowd, was the only thing that caught Hailee's eyes. Chloe's lips were moving as she paced. Hailee could feel fear racing in her body. But, she was on stage so she had to put a mask on over it all. What is she gonna do?
Half way through Hailee's show, was when the chaos happened. Hailee was prepping to sing her unreleased song "Used To This". Chloe started to make her way toward the sound booth. It took everything in Hailee to force herself to look away and keep going with the act.
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. Everyone held their hands up to their ears. Someone had tapped very hard on one of the mics. Once the place was quiet again, people started to cautiously uncover their ears.
"Now that I have everyone's attention, I would like to say something." Chloe said with an evil smile on her face.
"Hailee. Steinfeld. Where shall I start?.... You and I were so little then. We were best friends. We had promised each other that we wouldn't do it. I had trusted you." Chloe started calmly. A little too calmly for Hailee's liking.
"But NO! You were offered the opportunity and YOU TOOK IT FROM ME! Willingly knowing that I needed it more than you did. It changed my life after you betrayed me. You knew that it meant so much to me but you stole it from me. So now, I am going to take something that means a lot to you away from you!"
By then, the security guards had gotten hold of Chloe to take her away.
-After the show-
Hailee and her family had gone out to dinner. The show had gone well after Chloe's whole incident. Hailee just went back to where they had left off in the show and kept going.
"Hailee. You were amazing tonight! And don't let that Chloe get into your head. She's probably jealous." Blair said to her younger cousin.
Half of Hailee wanted to believe her older cousin but the other half wouldn't let it go. She wanted to make it right again with Chloe but she didn't know how. So Hailee had to sit there all evening going in a circle with her thoughts. She didn't get anywhere.
The rest of the tour was normal. Once Hailee had gotten back, she met up with her friend Haley. That was the day Hailee went to see her doctor and had received the bad news about her health.
Hailee and Haley (yes, I know, confusing!) had gone out to get ice cream.
"So what exactly happened in Irvine. I read on the news that Chloe had flipped out at you while you were on stage." Chloe questioned. Luckily for Hailee, not many articles were written on the incident.
"Ya. She just said that I had betrayed her and that she wants revenge." Hailee replied.
"Oh. Well, I bet Shawn flipped out at that." Haley said knowing the Canadian singer very well.
"Ya he-" Hailee managed to get out before dizziness took over.
"Hailee, what?" Haley said very concerned.
"Sorry. I just got really dizzy all of a sudden." Hailee admitted.
"Okay, I don't like that. Let's take you to the doctor's."
So the two went to the doctors. Hailee got the results and decided to go off the grid. Now that we are caught up, let's continue with the story.
