It was now half an hour before Hailee would be wheeled into surgery. She kept telling herself to fight when she was on the table. The thought of Berlin loosing two of the closest people to her within 24 hours hurt. Hailee's parents kept reminding her that it was Griffin's heart that she would be getting and that he was really healthy and strong. That helped calm Hailee a little bit.
It was now 15 minutes till surgery time. Hailee's cousins and aunts and uncles had come in earlier to wish her good luck. Now, it was only Shawn, Haley, Cheri, Pete, and Berlin that were left in the room. They constantly were telling Hailee that they loved her. Hailee made sure that it was known that she loved them back.
A nurse was checking Hailee's vitals. Hailee's family and friends were recalling funny memories with Hailee.
It was now 5 minutes before surgery. It was time to say goodbye. Hailee refused to say 'goodbye' though. She thought 'goodbye' meant that you would never see each other again. So, she would say some alternate way of goodbye.
Hailee had already said goodbye to Shawn, Haley, and her parents. The only one left was Berlin.
"Hey. Everything's going to be okay. Promise me that you'll fight for me when I'm in surgery while I fight for you alright?"
By now, they were starting the wheel Hailee down the hall.
"I'll see you in a minute Berlin. I love you."
The nurses took Hailee around a corner into a room labeled 'Surgery'. They put a mask on Hailee.
"Okay Hailee. You've done this before. Start counting down."
