Emily’s POV

I woke when the doctor said, “Ok, Emily, you have some visitors. They’ve been here waiting for five and a half hours. They’ll be happy to see you that you have recovered.” I sat up,

“Recovered? Recovered from what?” he placed his gentle hand on my shoulder warmly.

“Emily, you were accidentally drugged with Ketamine, and so it will probably affect your memory just a tad. You didn’t receive very much, but it was in your blood stream. It made it harder for us to remove. But thankfully you are just fine.” he smiled.

“Thank you so much, doctor.” I said smiling up at him. He soon left the room and in walked a group of three people. Mum, Dad, and a stranger. He was tall and handsome. Kind of seemed familiar, but I couldn’t figure out where I’d seen him before. Mum rushed to my side and gave me warms pecks on my face. Dad gave me a hug and told me he was glad to see that I had recovered. Mum walked over to me again and had tears in her old grey eyes. I reached out for a hug. As we broke our embrace I noticed the man staring at me with loving eyes. Eww. Who was he? He looked at me as if he loved me. I didn’t even know him. I looked at my mother, “Mum, who’s he?” she followed my gaze.

“Why, darling… That’s Mika!” I looked at her confused,

“Mum, I don’t know a Mika.” I whispered to her in a low voice. The man across from me started to look worried. Mum looked at him.

“What’s going on? Who are you?” she asked him walking towards him.

He dipped his head, “Ma’am could I talk to you and your husband outside please?” he asked her in a shaky voice. The three of them left and spoke to each other outside.

Mika POV

I pulled her parents outside of the room. “Look,” I said, “I swear to you I am Mika. The drug that was pumped into her veins has a memory loss side effect.” I almost started crying at that part. What if never remembered me again?

“Well, Mika. You look so very familiar too her posters. I believe you but What about Emily?”  her mother said. I looked nervously through the small window into her room. She was watching the TV on the wall. I looked back at her parents. “Let me try to talk to her. Maybe it’ll jog her memory.” I walked back into the hospital room without her parents. She gazed at me.  “What can I do you for?” she asked calmly.

I rubbed my neck and said, “Emily? I’m Mika… I don’t believe you remember me but… I really need you to remember, love. Please.” I knelt down next to her and held her right hand. I felt so damn desperate but I needed her. I needed her to say that she loves me. I needed her sweet company. I don’t think I could live without her. It was stupid of me. Could she even continue to go out with me? Maybe…maybe it was for the best. I would want her to be with the man she wanted.

*Flashback* “Mika. I really love you.” she said to me. *flashback over*

I locked my fingers around hers and a few tears flowed from my eyes. She looked at me with concern. “I’m so sorry uh… Mika. But I honestly don’t know who you are. I wish I could. It looks my memory loss is really causing you pain.” I shook my head. Maybe it was a sign. We could never be together. I was too old for her. Wow. I’m…a creep. I let go of her hand and stood up starting to walk towards the door. The TV that she was watching lit up. It was some kind of MTV channel where there would be music videos playing all day long. It was We Are Golden. I sighed. I turned around to see Emily’s face blank. I watched closely for some kind of explanation of her feelings. Her eyes started to widen. I looked on the screen. It was me dancing a bloody idiot. She then stared at me. “Who is he?” she asked pointing to the screen. I looked down. “That’s me.” I said slowly matching her eye level. She laughed, “Really?” she stared at me with her gorgeous blue eyes. “I’m trying so hard to remember you, Mika. I can start to feel it coming back to me. I’m just… trying. I want to remember. Honestly I do.” I was angry at Mallory. If she didn’t freaking do this to Emily… I…I.. Would be going to bed knowing that she is okay. I would have probably visited her at work again. I probably would have stayed in France for the rest of my life just to be with her. Only a few steps from her loving me.

“Yeah?” I said, “Well let me know when you do.” I said shoving my hands in my pockets and walking of there. I walked right past her parents and out of the hospital. I drove to a pub. It was like three in the morning, but I needed a drink. I sat down next to a woman who appeared to be very drunk. She looked about… twenty something. She was pretty but looked awfully tired. The bartender looked at me with disgust, “What’ll it be?” she asked roughly.

“Anything to keep me going.” I said.

“Lose someone tonight now , fella?” she asked while pouring a shot glass with a mysterious liquid.

“Yeah. Kind of.” I said. She slid the drink to me and quickly took it. The liquid burned in my heart and tasted foul. I asked for another. And another. And another. Soon I felt so high. I saw bright lights. I couldn’t feel me feet. I felt like I was standing but I wasn’t quite sure. I think someone was pushing me. Pushing me to the dance floor. Or was it the stage? An object was thrust into my hand and I held it up to my face. I yelled out something weird. I heard my voice loud through the speakers. I’m pretty sure someone threw a cup of something at my face. I threw the microphone on the floor and I heard a squeakkkkkkkkk. I fell to the floor and begged the ceiling for Emily. I want Emily.

“Emily! Please! Emily!” I screamed. I crawled to the bar and drank at least… twelve more shots. The bartender asked me something but I couldn’t hear it. I threw a bunch of cash at her and walked out of the pub. I walked across the street and stopped myself right in the middle of the busy road. I threw my hands up and fell to my knees. “Emily!” I screamed. Next thing I knew a heavy metal object crashed into me. I screamed with pain. I felt warm liquid flow from my head. My foot throbbed. I couldn’t take it. I lay on the ground and closed my eyes. After that I couldn’t open them. I tried desperately but my eyelids wouldn’t budge. I heard talking and then it faded. The sounds of the whole world fell silent. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality. Open your eyes, Look up to the skies and see.
