Emily’s POV

I got home from an average day of school and found a bouquet of flowers on the kitchen table.  I read the note :

From

I’ll see you soon.

-M

My heart skipped a beat. I had no idea he was in town. I rushed to my phone to text him.

Me: Hi!! I got the flowers.

He didn’t reply. I waited then after a half hour, I decided to call him. He didn’t answer the call either. Hmm. I decided to let it slide wondering if maybe he wanted his visit to be a complete surprise. I looked at the clock; it read 4:36. I decided to visit his small home in the city. I remember when I first met him there. He had just come back from the hospital and I was frustrated with the way the paparazzi always came to hunt me down for pictures and questions.

I came to the door and knocked pleasantly. I waited patiently for an answer. Five minutes later I rang the doorbell.  I imagined the way he would open the door to me. Hair: a mess of beautiful curls, clothes: a white shirt and black tight pants. His eyes bright and wet with love. Oh I was ready to see him again. I waited for a minute longer when I saw a small woman walk past me to her house next door.

“Excuse me?” She turned around with a smile on her face. Hmm she seems nice.

“oui?” she asked. I asked her in French if her neighbor had been in lately. She told that she hadn’t seen him for three months. I was so disappointed but thanked her.

I drove home wondering how he could have sent me the flowers if he was in town. I went home and sat down in front of the flowers trying to think. My parents got home and asked me if I wanted dinner but I said no. I planned to see Jessie. I asked my mom about who dropped off the flowers and she just told that a flower delivery guy had dropped them off as she was going to work she didn’t quite he remember what he said. I rolled my eyes and left the house in what I was wearing: Indian print legging with a pink sweater and my hand bag.  I spent that Friday night with Jessie. She didn’t know anything about Mika’s visit either however. In the morning I went home and I tried texting Mika. He never responded to any of them. I was starting to get very frustrated. I started getting anxious I didn’t know what to do with myself. I calmed down and thought that maybe I just needed to be patient with Mika and myself.

I was just too excited to see him again. I stared at the note. The picture was burned into my mind. Saturday came and went. Perfect. Just perfect. I was out in my driveway hosing down my car when My neighbor, Josephine, came out of her house. I waved to her and she came over to talk to me.

She was a student from America and was incredibly sweet. She had blonde hair and blue eyes.

“Hi Emily!” she greeted me

“Hello, Josephine! How have you been?”

“Great my boyfriend came from the US to visit me. “ she said with a smile.

“Oh how nice!” I said.

“Yeah, he came a day early and sent me flowers but I never got them. So he came to my doorstep last night and I was having friends over. It was so embarrassing because I wasn’t expecting him at all. Oh well. We still had a great time together.” she laughed.

“Oh how funny I got flowers on Friday. Of course mine were signed from my boyfriend.”

“Oh, what’s his name? I don’t believe you’ve ever mentioned him to me.”

“Mi- um Michael.”  I didn’t know how she would react if I said Mika.

“My boyfriend’s name is Matthew.” she said with a smile. Suddenly it hit me. The note on the flowers wasn’t signed Mika…it was signed “M” I ran back inside and grabbed the old flowers from the counter when I came back outside Josephine was startled by my random outburst. I gave her the flowers.

“I think these belong to you. Must have gotten the wrong address.” Josephine gasped.

“Oh my gosh thank you!” suddenly a group of girls came out from a car parked across the street. I recognized them from school They were laughing hysterically. Then one of the girl immerged from the croup. Mallory.
