Chapter Eleven: The Kraken

Maria's POV:

When the Dutchman surfaced I didn't really want to see her. "I'll handle this, mate." Jack said. "Oi! Fishface! Lose something? Hey?" He walked towards the stares and tripped tumbling down the stairs. "Oooh" I said pratically feeling his pain. "Got it!" He yelled holding the jar of dirt of. "Come to negotiate, eh, have you, you slimy git? Look what I got. I got a jar of dirt! I jot a jar of dirt! And guess what's inside it?" Jack sung. "Enough" I heard Jones say. His guns pulled out. "Hard to starboard" Jack said. "HARD TO STARBOARD!" I yelled.

"She's on us! She's on us!" Pintel shouted looking behind us. Cannon fire came upon us. "She's falling behind!" I said coming to the rail with Gibbs and Will. "We're the faster?" Will asked. "Against the wind the Dutchman beats us. That's how she takes her prey. But with the wind...." I said. "We rob her advantage." Will said. "Ah" Gibbs said. "They're giving up!" Marty shouted. Will and Jack were talking when suddenly the ship stopped sending the crew to their feet. I heard Jack's jar shatter.

I went to the rail. "We must have hit a reef." Someone said. "No it's not a reef. Get away from the rail!" Will said pulling Elizabeth from the rail. "What is it?" Elizabeth asked. "The Kraken!" Will said. "To arms!" I looked over at Jack who was mortified. I went below deck and started to load my cannon. Gibbs helped me rather quickly. Suddenly I looked through the hole. I saw nothing but tentacles. I froze. Gibbs grabbed my arm. He must have needed support. "Easy boys." Will said. "Hold....hold...FIRE!" Will said. I lit the fuse and I shot a cannon at it. I reloaded quickly and shot again.

Suddenly Will gave the order to load all the rum and gunpowder into the cargo hold. I went above deck and grabbed a gun. Suddenly I saw a boat rowing out. I knew it was Jack. "Oh you coward." I said. I felt a tear come to my eye. He abandoned me again. Leaving me to die. Gibbs ordered the crew to heave the trapped rum and gunpowder up. As we did the Kraken struck digging it's tentacles into the cannon holes. We were quickly over taken but fighting till death.

Jack's POV:

As I rowed I watch the Pearl being attacked by the terrible beastie. I began to doubt my descision. I had left Maria there to die. This would be the second time I have done this. I couldn't do it again, yet I felt like I could. I pulled me compass out and opened it. It spun around. I suddenly realized I don't need my compass to tell me what I really want. What I really want is Maria.

Maria's POV:

I shot at the tentacles but I could see it wasn't working. "Elizabeth shoot! Shoot!" Will yelled. I saw Elizabeth aim. Suddenly the Kraken grabbed hold of her. I then saw an axe come down and chop off the end holding her.  I went to grab the gun but it was picked up but someone else. He was picked up as well, and in mid air he dropped it and it landed at the top of the stairs. I ran up to grab it. I climbed and grabbed the gun. Suddenly someone's boot held it down. I tried to move it and then looked up. I saw Jack standing over me. He looked down and grabbed the gun.

I crawled up more and grabbed his leg. He took his time with aiming. I saw Will fall from the rigging. I heard Jack shoot. The barrels exploded. The Kraken's tentacles burnt and fell apart. It slowly retreated it's tentacles down to the sea. I stood up and ran down to the rail. "Did we kill it?" Marty asked. "No, we just made it angry. We're not out of this yet. Captain orders?" Gibbs asked. Jack came down and handed the gun off. "Abandon ship. Into the longboat." Jack ordered.

"Jack! The Pearl!" Gibbs said. "She's only a ship mate." He said. "He's right, We have to head for land." I said. " 'S a lot o' open wa'er." Pintel said. "That's a lot o' wa'er." Ragetti agreed. "We have to try. We can get away as it takes down the Pearl." Will said. "Abandon ship. Abandon ship or abandon hope." Gibbs said. We began to load. I saw Elizabeth go below deck for a moment. It was just me and Jack. I ran up to him and grabbed his arm. "Jack, thank you." I said. "We're not free yet love." He said. "You came back. You didn't abandon them. Or me." I said. I leaned forward and closed the gap between us with a passionate kiss. I let all anger I had towards Jack go. I forgave him for everything in that single moment. I pulled away. "I'll wait for you on the boat." I said. He smiled, "I'll be with you in a moment." I kissed him one last time then loaded. After a few moments Elizabeth loaded.

"Where's Jack?" Will asked. "He elected to stay behind and give us a head start." She said. I felt my heartbreak. "Go!" she said. This wasn't Jack. He just said he would be here. They quickly rowed. Suddenly the Kraken appeared. It began to tear and destroy the Pearl. I lunged forward. "JACK!" I screamed. I didn't care if the entire crew saw me crying for him. Tears poured down my cheeks as I screamed Jack's name. I felt Gibbs grab my shoulders and pull me back. I didn't want to believe this was happening. He pulled me back finally. He wrapped his arm around me. I muffled my wails and tears into his chest. The grief of losing Captain Jack Sparrow hit me too hard for me to handle.
