Rapunzel held the envelope in her hand. She was afraid to open it. These types of letters don't come unless it was something serious. She just stared at it with wide eyes.
She put her thumb near the seam. Then quickly pulled away. "No I can't do it!" , her mind screamed.
Then she thought again "But if I don't open it I'll never know."
She found herself staring at it once more. Her mind was at war. Should she open it? Or shouldn't?
"Just have to make it quick." She told herself "Like ripping of a bandage."
Without thinking she tore through the envelope and pulled out the letter. Before she could read it she shut her eyes, but she forced them to open.
She read every painful word. Looking up from the horrid letter she fell to her knees.
"No!" Her mind screamed "NOOO!" She hugged her stomach and sobbed. "It's not true! "It can't be true!"
But it was true. Her greatest nightmare had come true. Prince Eugene Fitzhurbert....was killed in action.

Rapunzel stood at the coffin. Her heart had never hurt so much before. She wanted to believe that this was all just a bad dream and Eugene would be there when she woke and he would comfort her and tell her everything would be all right.
But this was reality. And here she was...at a funeral. She placed her hand on the wood.
The King came over and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"It's time to lower the coffin." He told her.
She slowly removed her hand and stepped back.
As the coffin was lowered Rapunzel eyes started to water. The thought of Eugene being lowered into the ground..being father and father away from her, was all to much. She couldn't stand it anymore and burst into tears. Her parents tried to comfort her but she broke away and ran towards the castle wailing all the way there.
When she reached the palace she headed straight for her bedroom and slammed the door shut. Crying into her palms she slid down the door. She cried her heart out for hours it seemed.
She lifted her head, and out the window the moon was high in the sky.
Rapunzel let out a sigh. She got up, wiped her tears, and walked up to the dresser. When she opened it she saw her old purple dress that she wore when she was locked up in a tower. She figured it was better than the black mourning dress she was wearing. She put it on.
Rapunzel walked up to the window and opened it, letting in the moonlight. She stared up at the moon.
"Why did this happen?" She thought."Eugene always keeps his promises."
She started to cry again. She didn't know if she would ever feel happy again.
She softly began to sing,
"Heal what has been hurt.
Change the fate's design
Save what has been lost bring back what once
Was mine."
She buried her face in her arms.
"What once was mine" she finished
She sobbed herself to sleep. The moonlight shined into her hair and every individual strand turned into a golden blonde and started growing. It grew so long that it went to the floor and beyond. It looked just like her hair before Eugene cut it.
Rapunzel slowly opened her eyes. As she pulled her head up she jumped at the sight of her hair. She stood up gasping."What happened?" she thought. "Why is my hair long again?"
The strangest thing was that her hair flowed into her stand up mirror. Rapunzel slowly walked up to it. She looked behind it, nothing was there.
She lightly touched the glass. Her hand went right through as if it was water. Letting out a gasp she quickly pulled away. She stood there confused.
It felt like something was telling her to walk through. Was this fate? It had to be. Why else would her hair flow right through the mirror. She cosed her eyes and walked through the glass.
