Merida mounted on the scaly creature.

"What do ye need to show me?" She grumbled.

The boy gave her a friendly smile

"This." he said And with that the dragon was in the air. Merida began to fall back, she quickly wrapped her arms around him. The boy awkwardly glanced over his shoulder. Merida looked up realizing what she was doing and quickly pushed away.

The dragon was flying over the fields. She felt like her heart was soaring. Merida gazed up at the wispy clouds overhead. They reminded her of gentle strokes from a paintbrush. The ride was an amazing experience. She couldn't point out a single flaw. She began to think that maybe not all Vikings were bad.

She looked at the boy and held out her hand. "Merida DonBroch." She said.

He took her hand and shook it. "Hiccup Horendous Haddock the third." He said back

Merida raised her eyebrow, "Yer name is Hiccup?"

"Great name, I know." Hiccup mumbled.

Rapunzel sat at the dinner table with Merida's family, only there was one problem, Merida wasn't there. Looking down at her plate, Rapunzel tried her best not to meet the eyes of Merida's angry but concerned parents. She felt ill with guilt. "How could I leave her?" She thought. "Now she's out there in the rain."

Although she felt like this incident was mostly her fault, she couldn't help but feel that there was another reason Merida was late.

Although the King and Queen both felt highly concerned they didn't want to show it front of Rapunzel. But she knew what they were thinking.

Suddenly the door swung open and Merida staggered inside, completely soaked. Rapunzel didn't know whether to feel relived or worried. She now knew that Merida was safe, but now she would have to face the consequences from her parents.

The queen stood up with a stern glance at her daughter.

Merida pulled her wet curls from her face. "Sorry I'm late." She muttered.

The queen opened her mouth to say something, then closed it remembering that Rapunzel was there. "Merida," she said. "May I speak with you in private."

Rapunzel gulped. Then took a worried glance at Merida following her mother into another room. "Please don't be in too much trouble." She thought.

"Nothin' else happened I swear!" Merida told Rapunzel.

They were both sitting on the bed of Rapunzel's room.

"Merida," Rapunzel said sternly. "You don't fool me for a second. There's no way you were gone that long for no other reason."

"I told ye everythin' I told my mum!" the stubborn princess shouted. "Angus got spooked and I had to find him! End of story!"

Rapunzel looked at her doubtful. "Merida, just tell me. You can trust me."

Merida hesitated, but she knew that she really could trust her. "All right," she said softly. "I'll tell ye." She leaned in closer and whispered. "I met someone."

Rapunzel looked puzzled. "What kind of someone?" She asked. Then her eyes brightened with realization. "A boy?! It was a boy wasn't it!" She squealed gleefully.

Merida let out a loud shush. "Quiet!" She whispered.

But Rapunzel couldn't keep calm. "I knew it! Oh, Merida this is sooooo exciting! I can't wait to meet him! Is he cute?! How tall is he!? Have you..."

"Rapunzel!" Merida shouted interrupting her blabbering friend. "It isn't like that!"

"Why not?"

"Because we couldn't..."

"Why?"

"Because he's...." Merida glanced at the door. She leaned in and whispered into Rapunzel's ear.

Rapunzel's eyes widened "A VI..." She started to scream, but Merida cupped her hand over her mouth.

"Don' say it!" She said. "Just not that loud. Got it."

Rapunzel nodded and Merida removed her hand from her mouth.

"A Viking!" Rapunzel shouted in a hush tone. "Are you crazy!"

Merida crossed her arms "It's not as bad as it sounds." She told her everything that happened.

"So what are you gonna do now?" Rapunzel asked.

Merida sighed "I don't know. He said to meet him at the lake tomorrow I guess we'll think of something then."

"You think you can trust him?"

Merida looked at her in the eye "I have to."
