"Good morning sir"
Kola greeted as he walked into Mr. Kofi Acheampong's office.
Mr Kofi Acheampong was the Head of Department, Marketing and Advertising. He was a stern looking man with white hair and full white beard that contrasted with his black Ghanaian skin. He wore a pair of round spectacles that sat near the tip of his nose.
"Good Morning Ajayi, take a seat"
Mr Kofi replied making a hand gesture to the seat opposite his desk and he continued,
"Ajayi, why have you chosen to be rebellious and disrespectful to your lecturers? I'm getting reports that you refuse to show up for lectures and you talk back at your lecturers when cautioned. I hope you know that being a first class student doesn't mean you would not attend lectures dear boy. Do not make us take your scholarship from you."
Kolapo who had been busy texting, realizing that the man before him was done talking, raised his head to face Mr Kofi,
"No sir, no need to take the scholarship. I will have to work on my attention.....I mean attendance"
"You had better. You Nigerians are never serious with your lectures. If not that you are a smart boy, I would have not bothered talking to you"
"Thank you sir"
Kolapo thanked his H.O.D. and left the office.
On his way out of the departmental office building, he met Nana, his ex-girlfriend.
"Kollywag!!, Oh my god, it's been ages." She exclaimed throwing herself on him.
"Yeah, how are you"
"I'm fine o. Nobody sees you again these days. You're like Maltina Sip-it"
"L-O-L with a Z at the end. Did you look for me? Anyway, you've been balling though so I don't expect you to. You finally even went to the Paris you've always been making noise about"
"Yes dear, Frank & I had a wonderful time. It was so romantic"
"I could see"
"Ehen Kola, I heard you're now living with Holly Amadi. How's she?"
"Yes, she's good. Speaking of which, I even have to pick her up in a few minutes"
"Ok, you shouldn't keep her waiting then. I guess I'd see you around"
As they hugged themselves, said goodbyes and headed in opposite directions, Nana called out to Kola,
"Kollywag, be careful. I've heard weird things about her"
Kolapo, quite confused, just nodded and walked away to the parking lot.
As he stepped into his BMW i8 which he intentionally parked beside Mr. Darkwa's Opel Astra, he texted Holly asking her to wait for him at the entrance to her faculty building. As he started the engine, Ajebutter22's Bad Gang came blaring through the car's stereo.
Mr. Darkwa was Kola's least favourite lecturer. The same lecturer that said Kola wouldn't make it anywhere in academics. He had sworn to make sure Kola doesn't make it past his first year at the university. Too bad he didn't succeed. He recently had a fallout with the Provost of the School of Business because of Kola. He had nearly lost his job and had been avoiding Kola since then.
As he manoeuvred carefully out of the network of roads at the School of Business, Kola thought about what Nana had told him about Holly. He knew Nana would not lie to him out of jealousy. If she knew something he didn't, then it was probably worth hearing her out.
As he drove onto the main road outside the School of Business and turned towards the faculty of Humanities, he shook the thoughts off his head and stepped hard on his gas pedal revving the BMW sports machine into full acceleration.
He sped past the Faculties of Humanities and Law, around the Engineering building and through the faculty of Social Sciences before getting to the entrance of the faculty of Agriculture. He dialed Holly's number and before she picked, she was already knocking on the passenger door.
"Why did you bring the i8? You know I don't like attention"
She said as she stepped into the passenger seat of the car.
They had actually attracted a lot of eyes because expensive sports or luxury cars were not a common sight within the University campus.
"Sorry babe, you know i love attention"
Kola replied with a smirk as he sped off towards one of the campus exits.
As they drove home, Kola could not help but try to imagine what it was Nana knew about Holly.
She caught him staring at her a few times and after the 4th time, she asked,
"Is there anything on my face? Why you dey look me like that?"
He reached out and rubbed her cheek with his palm.
"Is there anything I don't know about you babe?"
With a startled look, she looked back at him,
"We've been together for 2 months. Of course, there are tons of things you don't know about me."
"Okay, tell me one of them"
"Umm, OK let me see. I'm crushing on Ycee"
"L-O-L-Z who told you I don't know?"
"Get out joor"
"I saw Nana today sha. She asked of you"
"OK"
"What's with the face?"
"Nothing, open the gate"
Kola opened the Daddy's Home app on his phone and opened the gate. Once inside, thoughts of Nana's words flashed through his mind as he drove up to the front of his house and parked among his other 6 vehicles.
At that moment, several thoughts were going through his mind. He wondered what Holly could be hiding. Was she the kind of girl he really needed. Could she handle a family? What would his father think about bringing "Omo Ibo" home. Did he make a bad choice of breaking up with Nana after 10 years. His father would have never accepted a Ghanaian girl. Was he just having these thoughts because he spoke to Nana? He still had Stella, Lizzy & Angie to worry about. What was he to do?
"Aren't you coming inside?"
Holly asked as she stood at the front door, snapping him out of his train of thoughts. He picked up his tablet & phone, closed the car door and headed inside.
As he stepped into the sitting room, he got a text from Emeka,
